It’s exciting times for fans of Xur as the Destiny 2 exotic vendor is returning to the world of Bungie’s shooter with some new items in tow. While Bungie put a few systems in place to help buff players’ chances at getting exotics from completing activities, Xur has a few easier paths that lead directly to new Destiny 2 exotics for all players.
This week, Destiny 2 players can find Xur in the Tower. Yes, the Tower. This is the first time that Xur has ever been in the Tower so some might have been a little confused when he didn’t appear on any of the four patrol areas. Even more so since Bungie had previously said that Xur can’t appear on Mercury.
Specifically, Xur has set up his exotic gear shop in the Western part of the Tower, near the Dead Orbit vendor, Arach Jalaal. Head to the left after spawning into the Tower, follow the path downstairs and around a winding open area, and head further to the left and back once you enter the big hangar with Cayde-6.
Exotic Armor
Xur’s exotic armor selection this week includes the Celestial Nighthawk helmet for Hunters, the Hallowfire Heart chest piece for Titans, and the Eye of Another World helmet for Warlocks.
Hunters should not sleep on the Celestial Nighthawk, as it is an essential exotic for PvE activities. Dealing 6x the damage of a normal golden gun shot (but you only get one shot), the Celestial Nighthawk is great for strike and raid bosses. If you’re a Hunter and you want to do DPS then you need Celestial Nighthawk.
Now that Bungie has buffed the Sunbreaker super for Titans, the Hallowfire Heart should be a popular exotic for the class. With it equipped, players’ recharge rates on their abilities will increase when their super is charged.
The Warlock exotic helmet increases the recharge rates of the player’s abilities, making it a solid choice for any subclass. The buff is only slight but it can make a difference with the right mods equipped.
Exotic Weapon
This week, Xur is selling the exotic sniper rifle D.A.R.C.I. It’s a cool looking gun but it isn’t exactly the most useful. Sniper rifles are not what they used to be in Destiny and are rarely used for DPS phases on bosses.
D.A.R.C.I.’s perks, which highlight targets and deal extra precision damage to them, help it stand out above some other sniper rifles, but still, there are better options available. If Bungie ever buffs sniper rifles to make them better in PvE, though, expect D.A.R.C.I. To become a top tier option.
Fated Engram and Three of Coins
Xur also has two new items this week, the Fated Engram and the Three of Coins. The Fated Engram is a straightforward new item that grants players an exotic they don’t currently own upon decryption. It’s a single use engram per week, though, so use it wisely.
Three of Coins are also back, but they work a little differently. Now the consumable lasts for 4 hours upon use and grants the player an increased chance of obtaining exotics. The buff won’t disappear after a player gets an exotic, which makes it great for farming.
