Exotic weapons have been the main attraction of Destiny for years, and in Destiny: Rising, players will have a chance to obtain some of the most iconic Exotics from the franchise. Tools of destruction, such as the Crimson Hand-Cannon, or the memorable Borealis from Destiny 2, and also, some new weapons are available for grabs, if players know where to look.
This guide will explain everything about the Exotic weapon system, including Battle Pass, Catalysts, differences with Mythic Weapons, and how to get all the exotic weapons currently available in the game.
How do Exotic Engrams work in Destiny: Rising?
Exotic Engrams work a bit differently in Destiny: Rising, and veteran Guardians (New Lights, too) should know that it's not so simple to get these precious items. For starters, some Engrams allow players to choose the rewards they want, but it's not the case with all of them.
Exotic Engrams are rewarded by completing the end-game activities in Destiny: Rising, which are available once players complete most of the Main Story missions and reach a Team Level of at least 50. Once players have completed Chapter 4-2 and the Armageddon mission, they will unlock Gauntlet Ops and Legendary Campaign modes, which allow them to get Exotic Engrams as rewards.
The 14-Day Sign In event also grants 2 Engrams (one at Stage 7, and another at Stage 14) which will allow players to choose from three different Exotic Weapons: Huckleberry, Borealis, and Crimson.
In particular cases, such as the Seasonal Featured Exotics, these need to be collected through the Battle Pass. Those who purchase the Premium Battle Pass will have access to these weapons earlier, while the Free-to-play players will only obtain them by completing all the levels of the battle pass (unlocked at level 50). Furies III and its Catalyst are available this season, and to obtain the Catalyst, players need to purchase it using Battle Pass Tokens (also granted by completing the Battle Pass Levels).
Differences Between Exotic and Mythic Weapons
Until Destiny 2, Exotic Weapons were the pinnacle of armament for Guardians all across the Sol System; however, in Destiny: Rising, there's a new weapon category called Mythic Weapons.
Mythic weapons are special since they are one level above Legendary weapons, and can roll with Mythic grade Perks which are significantly better than the Rare and Legendary Perks. Mythic Weapons are obtained in the following sources:
- Season Pass Engram Rewards
- The Gauntlet Pinnacle Rewards
- Event Rewards
- Legendary Story Mission Rewards

There are some cases where Exotic Weapons can have more than one user, (for example, Auto Rifles can be used by Finnala and Wolf), and there are cases where Exotic Weapons are for a single character, like Dual Pistols for Gwynn. But, this doesn't mean that characters released following season 1 cannot use them, so keep that in mind for build-craft purposes.
