Now that the decade-long Light and Darkness saga is coming to an end in Destiny 2, the next chapter of the franchise’s ongoing story is fast approaching. Set to release on July 15, The Edge of Fate expansion for Destiny 2 will kick off the Fate saga and the Year of Prophecy, taking both the franchise’s sandbox and storytelling into an exciting new era. Although the release of The Edge of Fate isn’t far off by now, all of the latest and upcoming events going on in Destiny 2 are helping to make the wait for this expansion even easier.

With a major expansion on the horizon and the Episode Heresy story ending, players might feel inclined to take a break from Destiny 2 until The Edge of Fate expansion releases. However, between now and when this expansion arrives, there are several worthwhile opportunities for players to earn some top-tier legendary loot in Destiny 2, giving players the perfect chance to expand their arsenal and max out on endgame currencies just in time for the release of The Edge of Fate expansion.

Destiny 2’s Rite of the Nine Event Deserves the Onslaught Treatment

Destiny 2’s Onslaught game mode is a permanent addition, and the new Rite of the Nine event arguably deserves the same treatment.

How Destiny 2 is Making the Wait for The Edge of Fate Expansion Worth It

  • The Rite of the Nine limited-time event serves as the introduction to The Edge of Fate expansion, and also offers top-tier legendary weapons, among other rare rewards
  • The Cruel Mercy pulse rifle and The Inquisitor shotgun, including their Adept versions, are available as bonus legendary weapon drops from completing Nightfall and Trials of Osiris activities
  • Iron Banner limited-time PvP event returns with a new reward
  • Episode Revenant Loot Tonics and the Episode Heresy Tome of Want provide ways to target specific loot drops while playing any activity

Why Players Shouldn’t Sleep on Destiny 2’s Rite of the Nine Event

Throughout Destiny 2’s Rite of the Nine event, one of three dungeons will be featured each week, with varying difficulty levels that offer increasingly better rewards, which notably include rare Adept and Holofoil legendary weapons, as well as an exclusive Shader, emblems, and several IRL collector’s items. Even amidst all the weapon and armor changes coming to Destiny 2 in The Edge of Fate expansion, it’ll likely be a long time before the god-roll legendary weapons from this event are power-crept and replaced by a new meta, if ever, so it’s highly recommended for players to grab these weapons before they’re gone.

Not only does the Rite of the Nine event offer exclusive, top-tier versions of the legendary weapons from the Dungeons featured in this activity, but there are also new secret collectibles hidden throughout this event that allow players to uncover the lore surrounding Orin, the Emissary of the Nine. Ultimately, this context surrounding the Nine could prove to be useful, given that The Edge of Fate expansion will heavily involve this mysterious faction.

Players can participate in the Rite of the Nine event without needing to own the associated Dungeon Keys in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2’s New Iron Banner Scout Rifle is a Must-Have

With the return of Iron Banner from May 20-27, there is a new legendary weapon to earn from this event: Nature Reclaimed. This Solar, lightweight frame scout rifle can notably roll with heal-clip and other perks that can compete with the current meta for legendary weapons in Destiny 2, which makes for a fine addition to players’ collections. Aside from the new scout rifle, another reason to participate in Iron Banner is that this PvP event also allows players to double-dip and earn reputation and exclusive rewards from both Iron Banner and Crucible simultaneously.

Iron Banner will return on June 17-24, which will be the final run of this event before The Edge of Fate expansion releases.
