It's Friday, which means the exotic merchant Xur has returned to Destiny 2 for a limited time. As always, he's bringing with him four exotic pieces sometimes worth picking up and sometimes not. Thankfully, each item has randomized rolls, introduced with Forsaken, which may add extra appeal to items that players already have.
The current trend continues, however, as Destiny 2 players expecting to see some of the very rare Forsaken exotic items from the merchant won't be getting their wish yet. For the near future, Xur will be selling items players likely acquired throughout the first year of the game, though Bungie has confirmed that at some point in the future, new exotics could be making an appearance.
Until then, here's what to expect from Xur starting today, October 5, through the weekend.
Where is Xur?
As players have discovered since the launch of Forsaken, Xur is no longer tethered to the Flashpoint milestone location, instead creating that hide and seek feel from his days within the first game. To make things even more difficult, the merchant no longer has an icon on the mini-map either, but thankfully, he is still restricted to his normal locations within any of the destinations.
This weekend, Xur can be found hanging out on Io inside of the Giant's Scar. Fast travel to that location and immediately head into the open area with the drill in the middle. Xur can be found on the left side of the area inside of a cave.
Class Armor
Just like last week, Xur has two vanilla exotic gear pieces as well as one that was added with Curse of Osiris.
Skull of Dire Ahamkara - Warlock helm
A Voidwalker specific item, this helm provides additional damage resistance during Nova Bomb as well as additional super energy for Nova Bomb kills. While Nova Warp may be getting a lot of usage these days, for those who want to chain Nova Bomb kills, then this is going to be a very good item to grab. In addition, Hands-On grants even more super energy for melee kills, so this helm provides multiple ways to earn a super.
Random perks:
- Mobility OR Recovery
- Bow Targeting, Hand Cannon Targeting, Hands-On which grants bonus super energy on melee kills.Shotgun Reserves OR Heavy Ammo Finder
Young Ahamkara's Spine - Hunter arms
The longtime hunter arms initially wasn't a very popular exotic. After a buff in the big Sandbox update and combined with the subclass changes in Forsaken have restord this item a bit. It's exotic perk called Wish-Dragon Teeth increases Tripmine Grenade duration and blast radius. In addition, ability damage also grants Tripmine Grenade energy. While this exotic perk traditionally wasn't too exciting, many hunters are taking advantage of it with the new Solar subclass, Way of a Thousand Cuts.
Random perks:
- Mobility OR Resilience
- Fusion Rifle Loader, Hand Cannon Loader, Impact Induction where causing melee damage reduces grenade cooldown.
- Shotgun Scavenger OR Heavy Ammo Finder
Helm of Saint-14 - Titan helm
A Defender Titan exotic, this helm is a great support tool for your team. Starless Night is the exotic perk and it blinds enemies that enter Ward of Dawn, while giving allies and overshield when they pass through it. Not only that, guarding with Sentinel Shield blinds nearby enemies as well. It's another solid choice, especially for the more challenging aspects of the game and even modes like Gambit.
Random perks:
- Resilience OR RecoveryBow Targeting, Hand Cannon Targeting, Hands-On which provides bonus super energy on melee kills.Shotgun Reserves OR Heavy Ammo Finder
Exotic Weapon
This weekend's exotic weapon is the Skyburner's Oath, a Cabal inspired weapon that features two different firing modes. The exotic Intrinsic perk is called Slug Rifle which lobs large, explosive, and enemy seeking slugs when firing from the hip. Aiming down the sights slows the rate of fire but increases damage output and fires bullets in a straight line. It's also a great weapon when fighting Cabal as it not only provides a damage boost but the slugs can penetrate phalanx shields.
Even with all of the new exotics in the game, Skyburner's Oath remains a solid choice in PvE thanks to its solid exploding slugs and ability to shred cabal. It's definitely worth owning for those who don't already have it.
Here's the complete rundown of Xur's entire stock for Oct 3:
