Xur has returned again to Destiny 2, complete with new exotic and legendary gear for players to check out for a limited time. Following Bungie's reveal of a highly requested Destiny 2 feature last week, the weekly blog had plenty more to say. There's a new cooperative community event that has kicked off in full, taking inspiration from Geralt of Rivia and CD Projekt RED's Witcher franchise. If the community is able to slay 7,777,777 enemies using Swords, the heavily rumored Adventurous Spirit emblem will be given to all players.
The blog also took the opportunity to finally reveal a new gameplay mechanic being added to the game at next week's reset. Known as Riven's Wishes, Destiny 2 players can visit Mara Sov to obtain a weekly quest typically involving a tougher activity in The Dreaming City, and for those who complete it, they'll be given a Wish Token. These can be turned in to obtain a reward from 1 of three categories that include Last Wish weapons, Exotics added over the past year, as well as mementos and rarer materials.
Until then, however, Xur is back again with a whole selection of exotics and legendaries for Destiny 2 players over the next few days. Follow this guide for his current weekend location, news on his exotic cipher quest, as well as a review of all the exotic and legendary gear he's brought for the weekend of January 26, 2023.
Where is Xur?
This weekend, Xur is on Nessus in the big tree at Watcher's Grave.
From the Director, head to Nessus and load into Watcher's Grave. Run towards the back of the zone where a massive tree is found. Jump up until players find the huge branch where the merchant is hanging out.
Class Armor and Exotic Cipher
Xur's role continues to offer the usual weekly quests, exotics, and legendary gear. Not only are these quests required to purchase a second fated engram, but they're necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the Tower kiosk. Players can earn a new cipher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clan mates or finishing more challenging activities.
Xur continues to sell even more gear outside his usual content. In addition to his normal exotic gear, Xur now has Legendary Weapons and Armor for sale in exchange for Legendary Shards and Glimmer.
Exotic Armor
Lunafaction Boots - Warlock leg armor
Exotic Perk:
- Alchemical Etchings - Rifts gain the additional ability to increase weapon reload speeds. Empowering Rift makes weapons effective over longer ranges.
At one point long ago, these were a must-have exotic, but over the years, they've certainly fallen off most Warlock player lists. Overall, the exotic perk is alright, though it's certainly not very impressive compared to other recently added exotics. These likely aren't going to replace some of the best options during Season of the Wish, so they aren't a required buy this weekend.
Stat Values (64 Total):
- Mobility +10
- Resilience +13
- Recovery +11
- Discipline +18
- Intellect +6
- Strength +6
Foetracer - Hunter helmet
Exotic Perk:
- Relentless Tracker - Damaging a powerful combatant or Guardian with an ability grants a temporary bonus to weapon damage matching the subclass type. Defeating that target with a weapon matching the damage type of the player's subclass creates an elemental pickup.
Foetracer, once a simple wall hack exotic, received a complete exotic rework during Season 22. Taking inspiration from the Monochromatic Maestro seasonal mod, the Foetracer is now able to grant bonus damage and elemental pickup. It's a solid exoptic that certainly has its uses, though the roll could certainly be better on this.
Stat Values (65 Total):
- Mobility +8
- Resilience +10
- Recovery +15
- Discipline +10
- Intellect +2
- Strength +20
Severance Enclosure - Titan Chest Armor
Exotic Perk:
- Spheromatick Trigger - Powered melee final blows unleash a damaging explosion. Finishers and final blows against more powerful targets increase the radius and damage of the explosion.
While this exotic has never really been a good option for Titan players, it received a rework in Season of the Wish, which now makes it more viable as a great way for add clearing. The unfortunate element here is that the roll isn't great, so it's a tough recommendation.
Stat Values (63 total):
- Mobility +10
- Resilience +15
- Recovery +6
- Discipline +10
- Intellect +7
- Strength +15
Exotic Weapon
The Fighting Lion's intrinsic perk is called Delayed Gratification, allowing players to hold the trigger and then release it to detonate the grenade. The grenades can also bounce off surfaces, allowing for some very tricky shots. Its trait is Thin the Herd which makes direct hits do more damage to shields, while rapid kills to grenade damaged enemies refill the magazine. Finally, kills with this weapon always drop primary ammo.
The biggest thing this weapon has going for it is that it doesn't take up a heavy slot like most Grenade launchers. Instead, it sits in the energy slot, freeing up players to continue using a legendary heavy weapon of their choice. This is also a weapon that likely won't be for everyone as its delayed detonation requires a bit of skill to fully master.
Weapon perks:
- Countermass
- Implosion Rounds
- Short-Action Stock
Hawkmoon Rolls
At this point, Xur is only selling Hawkmoon with randomized rolls, but its time is limited once Harbinger is ultimately added to the Exotic Mission Rotator and makes the hand cannon craftable. Either way, here is the roll Xur has this weekend:
Hawkmoon Rolls:
- Hammer-Forged Rifling
- Alloy Magazine
- Hip-Fire Grip
- Heavy Grip
