Xur has returned again to Destiny 2, complete with new exotic and legendary gear for players to check out for a limited time. With the arrival of Iron Banner and its new Tribute mode this week, fans didn't seem to take to it so well. The outcry and negative feedback pushed Bungie to effectively remove Tribute from Destiny 2 entirely, replacing it with the standard Iron Banner Control. In the meantime, Bungie announced that it will be tweaking and revising the rules before releasing it again sometime in the future.
This week's blog post also highlighted Destiny 2's rapidly approaching winter event known as The Dawning. This year's version will be adding a new Glaive known as the Albedo Wing which can be obtained through event challenges as well as the associated Festival Engrams. The perk pool has been refreshed for all previous weapons including the Stasis Sword Zephyr, which can roll with Cold Steel. For most fans though, the most exciting reveal was The Dawning's Memento to give weapons an icy blue look.
For now though, Xur is back again with a whole selection of exotics and legendaries for Destiny 2 players over the next few days. Follow this guide for his most current weekend location, news on his exotic cipher quest, as well as a review of all the exotic and legendary gear he's brought for the weekend of December 8, 2023.
Where is Xur?
This weekend, Destiny 2 players will need to head to the European Dead Zone to track down Xur.
Using the Winding Cove fast travel point, players will need to head to the back of the zone, where Xur is standing on a ledge nearby to some Fallen tech.
Class Armor and Exotic Cipher
Xur's role continues to offer the usual weekly quests, exotics, and legendary gear. Not only are these quests required to purchase a second fated engram, but they're necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the Tower kiosk. Players can earn a new cipher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clan mates or finishing more challenging activities.
Xur continues to sell even more gear outside his usual content. In addition to his normal exotic gear, Xur now has Legendary Weapons and Armor for sale in exchange for Legendary Shards and Glimmer.
Exotic Armor
Skull of Dire Ahamkara - Warlock helmet
Exotic Perk:
Actual Grandeur - Provides additional damage resistance during Nova Bomb. Nova Bomb kills grant Super energy.
Not the greatest of rolls this week with a much higher Mobility stat than a Warlock player would probably want to see. Coupled with the fact that Dire isn't nearly as strong as it was in the past thanks to various nerfs, this helmet isn't a must buy this week.
Stat Values (64 Total):
- Mobility +18
- Resilience +7
- Recovery +7
- Discipline +12
- Intellect +18
- Strength +2
Ophidia Spathe - Hunter chest armor
Exotic Perk:
Scissor Fingers - Gain a second knife per charge. Getting a final blow with a throwing knife grants consecutive knives a temporary stacking damage bonus. Gambler's Dodge refreshes the bonus timer.
Technically, the highest roll this week belongs to Hunters with the Ophidia Spathe. It can be fun to mess around with in specific melee style builds, but overall this isn't a must-have exotic, even if Bungie did give it a buff in the Season of the Wish patch.
Stat Values (65 Total):
- Mobility +14
- Resilience +14
- Recovery +8
- Discipline +9
- Intellect +9
- Strength +11
An Insurmountable Skullfort - Titan helmet
Exotic Perk:
Transfusion Matrix - Kills with Arc melee abilities trigger health regeneration and restore melee energy.
An exotic item that has been on offer quite often these past few months is back again and not much has changed overall. It's a solid, though not required pickup this week.
Stat Values (64 total):
- Mobility +6
- Resilience +21
- Recovery +8
- Discipline +6
- Intellect +7
- Strength +16
Exotic Weapon
Back again is the Jade Rabbit, a scout rifle that provides a bonus for skilled players. The Fate of All Fools is the scout weapon's intrinsic perk, giving bonus damage to players that can land a precision shot after chaining multiple body shots on an enemy. This also returns ammo to the magazine as well. Zen Moment, the other unique perk, also gives bonus stability when the weapon causes damage to an enemy..
Under the right situations and with a little bit of skill, this can be a powerful weapon. At the end of the day, this weapon may not suit everyone, but it's worth a look for those who can master the art of the headshot.
Weapon perks:
- Polygonal Rifling
- Armor-piercing Rounds
Hawkmoon Rolls
At this point, Xur is only selling Hawkmoon with randomized rolls, but its time is limited once Harbinger is ultimately added to the Exotic Mission Rotator and makes the hand cannon craftable. Either way, here is the roll Xur has this weekend:
Hawkmoon Rolls:
- Polygonal Rifling
- Alloy Magazine
- Quickdraw
- Heavy Grip
Here's the complete rundown of Xur's exotic stock in Destiny 2 for December 8, 2023:
