This week in Destiny 2, Lord Saladin has returned with the Iron Banner. In addition to double Valor for the next week, players who have not yet completed the seasonal quest have another opportunity to do so. Unfortunately, for those who have finished, there's really nothing new to pursue. However, most people may be more excited for what's coming next week.
Starting at reset next week, the annual Solstice of Heroes event finally arrives. This tradition is a month long event that celebrates players and accomplishes made throughout the past year. The European Aerial Zone makes its return as well as a new set of armor to upgrade during the event. Better yet, the armor features a white glow when fully upgraded, and a universal ornament can be purchased from the Eververse store that will change the color to match the player's currently chosen element. This will include the blue glow for Stasis when Beyond Light arrives in November.
Until then, the weekly exotic merchant Xur has returned somewhere inside of Destiny 2 for the next few days. Follow this guide for his location as well as a review of what he's currently selling for the weekend of August 7, 2020.
Where is Xur?
For this weekend, Xur has taken up residence back on the Calus Love Barge inside of Watcher's Grave on Nessus.
From the Director, head to Nessus and load into Watcher's Grave. Once loaded in, run forward until the zone opens up. The Golden Barge is floating nearby with Xur hanging out towards the back of the ship near the treasure chests.
Class Armor
As he's been doing for the past few weeks, Xur is no longer selling collection rolled gear. The armor he now has features randomized stats and perks, which should revitalize player interest in what the merchant has each week. In addition, players can use an Exotic Cypher to purchase a second fated engram from the merchant.
Here are Xur's three gear pieces this weekend:
Nezarec's Sin - Warlock helmet
The Voidwalker specific helm Nezarec's Sin is once again available from the exotic merchant. It's intrinsic perk is known as Abyssal Extractors, a void specific ability that should make Voidwalker Warlocks very happy. Essentially, any void damage kills increase ability energy recharge rate. It remains a solid pickup for Warlocks.
For those curious, this item pairs well not only with Voidwalkers, but many strong void-centric weapons currently in the game like the Hammerhead machine gun, Gnawing Hunger auto rifle, and Recluse submachine gun. For those who don't have it or want to replace a collection role with something a little better, this is worth a purchase this week.
Void Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +8
- Resilience +15
- Recovery +9
- Discipline +17
- Intellect +10
- Strength +6
Gemini Jester - Hunter leg armor
After the disappointment that was last week, Hunters at least have a better option to pick from this weekend. The intrinsic perk Misdirection causes nearby enemies to become disoriented and temporarily removes their radar after the Hunter dodges near them.
While not a top tier exotic, they're at least fun to use in PvP against other players. The range of its Misdirection effect is larger than many think and could very easily mess other players up who are not ready for it or perhaps on the other side of a wall even. Keep in mind that this perk can also be a liability as it will trigger the Titan’s One-Eyed Mask perk Vengeance. Plus, the roll on this item this week is pretty good, coming in at a total of 65. At the very least, these may be worth replacing a collection roll.
Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +11
- Resilience +14
- Recovery +7
- Discipline +18
- Intellect +6
- Strength +9
Peregrine Greaves - Titan leg armor
The overly rare Peregrine Greaves are back in stock with Xur this weekend. Peregrine Strike enhances all shoulder charge melee abilities to deal bonus damage when it is activated in the air.
These Titan boots got in a bit of trouble leading up to the Garden of Salvation raid last October, getting removed from the entire game for 24 hours to keep the competition of World's First fair. Needless to say, these boots are pretty powerful, even if they received a nerf at the start of this season. However, one could make the argument that they're more situational than anything as the wearer does need to be airborne to get the bonus and shoulder charges typically one shot enemies anyway.
Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +15
- Resilience +3
- Recovery +14
- Discipline +7
- Intellect +17
- Strength +8
Exotic Weapon
Xur seems to be on a fusion rifle kick these days as he's brought the Merciless for players this week. Unlike the Telesto last week, Merciless is a heavy weapon that has high damage output, especially against a single target. It's a solid choice regardless of the mode, though Nightfalls and strikes make it a powerful choice. While it was once a sure pick from fans, players who want a little more bang for their buck may actually opt for weapons like the Jotunn, which isn't a power weapon and has a bit of tracking as well.
Merciless gets its power from its exotic perks. Conserve Momentum continually charges the weapon faster when players get non-lethal hits, with the cycle resetting once the final kill is achieved. Pair that with its other perk, Impetus, players gain increased damage for a short time after quickly reloading following a kill.
Additional perks:
- Chambered Compensator
- Extended Mag
- Fitted Stock
