Summary

  • Titans in Destiny 2 are set to receive buffs to become a true tank class with more depth and viability for high-tier content.
  • Bungie is enhancing Titan abilities like Barricade, Sentinel Shield, and Prismatic Titan to pull aggro and provide better support for teammates.
  • Changes coming with Episode: Revenant include increased damage resistance, reduced damage against Barricade, and additional buffs to subclasses.

Alongside Episode: Revenant, Titan players in Destiny 2 are going to be seeing major buffs for various subclasses, melee abilities, as well as a big change to the Barricade. Since the start of the Destiny franchise, the three classes have always occupied a sort of traditional RPG style role, with Hunters seemingly being the rogue, Warlocks as the mage, and Titans as the frontline warrior. While there has certainly been crossover between these roles over the years for these classes, Bungie is attempting to strengthen the Titan's grasp on being Destiny 2's ultimate tank.

It's no secret among Destiny 2 players that the Titan class has typically lagged behind Warlocks and Hunters in terms of popularity, a fact which has been pointed out numerous times during the Destiny 2 Guardian Games and how things are typically weighted. Many in the community refer to Titans as the class that is best at punching things, something which became a bigger problem with The Final Shape expansion due to a lack of cohesion and synergy between many of the Titan's Prismatic aspects and abilities. However, it seems like the Titan's time to shine may be on the horizon, as Bungie confirmed major changes coming to the class to help it feel more like an actual tank class.

Destiny 2 Making Big Change to Episodic Content

Bungie announces that it is changing how it releases new story-based content going forward, starting with Destiny 2 Episode: Revenant.

In its latest weekly blog, Bungie gave a sneak preview of some of the bigger gameplay changes hitting the Destiny 2 sandbox when Episode: Revenant launches in October. One particular highlight is with Titans, as Bungie is attempting to add more depth and viability for higher tier content. Instead of removing or replacing what already works, Bungie is instead buffing many aspects of the class, starting with the Barricade, Unbreakable shield, and Sentinel Shield’s guard. All three will now taunt enemies to pull aggro to draw enemy fire away from teammates. A few of the big changes include damage being reduced against the barricade, Unbreakable generates grenade energy from blocked damage, and the Void Overshield has increased PvE damage resistance.

Destiny 2 Buffing Titans to be a True Tank Class

However, pulling aggro is just the start of what Bungie has planned. Starting with Destiny 2's Prismatic Titan, Bungie is planning numerous buffs which also apply to the ability's standard subclass as well. For example:

  • Consecration
    • Scorch and slam waves now shatter Stasis Crystals.
  • Diamond Lance
    • Thrown or slammed Diamond Lances will now shatter Stasis Crystals.
    • Slamming a Diamond Lance will grant you and nearby allies two stacks of Frost Armor.
    • Changed the weapon tray HUD to display how many seconds are remaining before the Diamond Lance disappears, like a Tangle.
  • Knockout
    • Melee kills now cancel health and shield stun, in addition to healing, allowing you to immediately start regenerating.
  • Shiver Strike
    • Now attaches a Stasis explosive to the target on impact. This detonation slows players and freezes combatants.
    • Now refunds 80% melee energy on whiff.
    • Increased energy recharge rate by 12.5%.
    • Immediately after landing a Shiver Strike attack, the attacker’s melee ability is now suppressed for 0.5s.

Lastly, Bungie also addressed the final pillar of the Titan class with its focus on melee. To fulfill this fantasy, the Titan's unpowered melee will now hit harder than a Hunter or Warlock with a 5% damage increase against other players, 25% damage boost against PvE enemies, and a increased stun multiplier on top of that.

The Titan change reveal is just one aspect of what may be a major update that launches alongside Episode: Revenant. Over the past few weeks, Bungie has continued to reveal upcoming changes alongside story content no longer being timegated. Another big change coming is that Destiny 2 is making Dungeon and Raid farming easier when the weekly reset will offer 2 options for each instead of the usual 1 and 1. Ultimately, the change will reduce the amount of time it takes for certain activities to cycle back around, effectively cutting it in half from 8 weeks to only 4.
