Bungie announces a compensation plan for Destiny 2 players who may have been impacted by the recent PlayStation Network outage. It was a big weekend for Destiny 2 players as the newest dungeon known as Sundered Doctrine finally launched and kicked off a brand-new race between fireteams.
Unfortunately, that race was interrupted for PlayStation players as Sony experienced a lengthy server outage. The issue began on February 7, bringing the PlayStation Network down for all players, rendering online features and digital games largely inaccessible for around 17 hours until the issue was resolved. Naturally, the unexpected outage left many disappointed and frustrated as they were unable to access their content.
Destiny 2 Releases Huge Episode Heresy Update
Alongside Episode Heresy, Destiny 2 releases a major update making adjustments to the game's sandbox, weapons, and other activities.
In the wake of the outage, many companies have begun compensating players for the time lost. Much of the frustration seems to stem from the lack of communication from Sony, who acknowledged the issue after a few hours but largely downplayed the severity of it. Naturally, the outage also impacted various online games as well as certain events, including the World's First race happening in Destiny 2, which was only intended to run for 48 hours.

Taking to social media, Bungie revealed compensation plans due to the outage, even with the Sundered Doctrine dungeon race having come to a close. Due to the issues preventing access to Destiny 2, Bungie is making an additional Sundered Doctrine Contest Mode weekend available, giving players another opportunity to clear the dungeon on Contest level difficulty to earn the associated rewards. Better yet, this change isn't only for PlayStation players and will be available for all platforms as well. Additional details, including a start date and time, will be revealed at a later date.
Bungie is following in the footsteps of other companies who have provided compensation to players who were impacted by the outage. Sony announced its own PSN compensation plans, giving all players an extension of 5 free days, while other companies like Capcom announced an added 24 hours for the final beta weekend of Monster Hunter Wilds. Even Krispy Kreme got in on things by giving away free donuts within a two-hour window after outage reports began circulating online.
