It's easy to look fashionable while decimating swathes of enemies in Destiny 2, but several players feel that the current transmogrify system is restrictive and needs an overhaul for better accessibility. Introduced in the Season of the Splicer during Destiny 2's Beyond Light era, the transmogrify system allows players to change the appearance of Legendary Armor pieces to suit their needs of looking cool.

The earliest iterations of cosmetic modifications can be found in games such as GoldenEye 007 and the original Tomb Raider from 1996, where players could change entire 'skins.' However, World of Warcraft was the first to introduce a dedicated, gear-based transmogrify system in the Mists of Pandaria expansion, ushering in a new wave of character customizations in video games. The original Destiny introduced custom skins for Exotic Armor and Weapon with the Rise of Iron expansion, which was continued in the sequel. As the number of ornate and thematic armors kept growing with each passing expansion and season of Destiny 2, the demand for a dedicated transmogrification system for Legendary Armors grew in tandem, prompting Bungie to release the Synthweave system.

In the current Synthweave system of Destiny 2, players can obtain special bounties from Ada-1 at the tower, which rewards Synthweave upon completion. This Synthweave can be turned in at The Loom, which converts the specialized currency into class-specific consumables to unlock Armor pieces as Universal Ornaments. The player must have the original armor discovered in their gear library to obtain it as a Universal Ornament. The only catch is that players can only complete Ten Synthweave bounties per character throughout a season. Players such as ThePkBoi have raised their voices on the official subreddit against such restrictions, citing that this very reason shortens their playtime as they cannot unlock ornaments for a thematic build even if they want to.

Other players have also chimed in the comment section, stating that the cap on the obtainable bounties is only one piece of the puzzle, and the Eververse storefront is the other piece, as it provides passive income with no development cost. Not so surprisingly, interested players can purchase Synthweave from the Eververse store and bypass the cap entirely without any drawbacks. While spending money on cosmetic items might seem odd to some, the success of Microtransactions in recent times has proven otherwise. Still, Eververse has received a lot of flak from the community thanks to Bungie's aggressive monetization tactics in Destiny 2.

Several players have cited examples of other games simply granting transmogs with passive gameplay and less predatory tactics, asking the developers to do the same for Destiny 2. Bungie has previously changed existing systems to benefit the player base, relying on maintaining transparency with the Destiny 2 community regarding sensitive topics, and hopefully this issue won't be any different.

Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
