Destiny 2's Revision Zero Exotic Pulse Rifle quest has proven to be extremely popular within the community, with the search for it trending on Twitter the first few days it was available. Building off the seasonal story in Season of the Seraph, the Destiny 2 Exotic quest has revitalized many from the repetitive fatigue that was felt with Season of Plunder. However, with limited availability, many players may experience a fear of missing out on this unique weapon.
Featured as Destiny 2's newest Exotic weapon, Revision Zero is a kinetic pulse rifle with Anti-Barrier rounds that doubles as a sniper rifle when shooting enemy weak spots, charges its targeting data, which enters Hunter's Trace mode. Similar to the Witch Queen's Exotic, Osteo Striga, Revision Zero has craftable catalysts that can be obtained in the coming weeks. While certain unknowns remain, these catalysts will coincide with future quests to get them. These additional quests, combined with the other requirements for the pulse rifle, add a bit of pressure for players to secure the weapon for themselves.
How Getting Revision Zero in Destiny 2 Promotes FOMO
While Revision Zero is obtained through a unique quest, The Hidden Shape, there are several tasks that players need to accomplish before they can begin. First and foremost, Revision Zero is tied to the Seasonal story featured in Season of the Seraph, which entails Guardians, along with Ana, Osiris, and Clovis Bray, in rebuilding the Warmind Rasputin. Players must push through the first three weeks of content for Season of the Seraph's quest, More Than a Weapon.
Once players work their way into Week 3, they need to complete steps 19 through 21, which involve similar tasks from earlier weeks when Guardians engage in Destiny 2's Heist Battlegrounds to open Seraph Chests. Once this is accomplished, Guardians must speak with Elsie Bray at the holoprojector in the H.E.L.M., where she will detail the plan to infiltrate the Clovis Bray Orbital Station in Earth's atmosphere.
Listening to Elsie's message at the holoprojector will then grant players the quest The Hidden Shape, which opens the ability to play Destiny 2's Operation: Seraph's Shield, an activity that must be done on at least Normal difficulty to progress forward for Revision Zero. Operation: Seraph's Shield can be started by accessing the H.E.L.M. Map, and players will see the icon for it, meaning they can play it multiple times, including in Legendary mode, to reap more rewards.
Once players complete Operation: Seraph's Shield, they have to return to the H.E.L.M. And speak to the Exo Frame. A Hidden Agent will talk through the Frame, referencing the mystery surrounding the Exotic, and thus provide players with the Deepsight Resonance pattern of Revision Zero. The final step to The Hidden Shape is to craft Revision Zero at the Relic, located at the Enclave on Mars. Players must extract its weapon pattern and craft the Exotic pulse rifle, completing the quest.
As such, there are many steps to complete in order to obtain the weapon, in the first place. Not playing through one or more weekly instances of Season 19 already puts players in a rough spot, considering Revision Zero will only be available for a total of ten weeks. What follows is that this approach, while great for the community at large, builds on the foundations of FOMO.
Why Revision Zero Being Time-Gated May Cause Fear of Missing Out
As players can tell, obtaining Revision Zero is no simple task, as accepting the quest to get it requires players to play through the first few weeks of seasonal content. While many players play the weekly missions as soon as they release, those behind have much to catch up on to obtain the quest. Furthermore, as stated, players must progress to The Hidden Shape along with Operation: Seraph's Shield.
All this entails a lot of steps and quests, primarily starting with More Than a Weapon, which some players may find overwhelming. Additionally, after Revision Zero is crafted, players must level it up by using it or having it equipped while playing. This is necessary for future catalysts, which will be released as quests of their own in the coming weeks, requiring more playthroughs of Operation: Seraph's Shield, as there are rooms that were inaccessible the first time around.
Not only will the catalysts for the crafting upgrades be released over several weeks, but Season of the Seraph is the final Season in Year 5. With the release of Lightfall around the corner, the chance to play all these quests will soon be gone, putting a time limit of roughly ten weeks for players to obtain Revision Zero and craft and upgrade it. For a live service game, this adds enormous pressure on gamers to play right now, and play every week, too. Hopefully, Bungie will find some way to keep the Exotic Revision Zero within Destiny 2, even after Lightfall's release, which would reduce the impeding fear of missing out for all those players who can't constantly dedicate time to the game.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
