Season of the Deep comes to Destiny 2 later this month along with a smorgasbord of new changes. In the recent weeks, Bungie has continued to feed fans with new information about several long-requested updates to Destiny 2 coming with Season 21. As the next season rapidly approaches, players are looking forward to some major overhauls that look to remove a good bit of grind from their endgame experience.
When Destiny 2's expansion The Witch Queen launched last year, fans were treated to a number of new features including the ability to craft their own weapons. Through the power of Deepsight, Guardians were able to traverse Savathun's Throne World, and they also traveled to the Enclave on Mars to interact with the Relic, an artifact of the Darkness that allowed them to reach across time and recreate weapons from patterns and memories. While there were several weapons that Guardians could resonate with at launch, only a handful of dropped weapons could provide the patterns necessary for weapon crafting, leaving much of a player's ability to craft weapons up to the luck of the draw.
Destiny 2's Weapon Crafting Just Got Easier
In an unexpected but welcome change to many players, Bungie will be introducing a huge update to weapon crafting. Instead of relying on RNG or consistent raid running, players will be able to freely activate Deepsight on a weapon to obtain its pattern starting in Season 21. This new mechanic will be achievable through the use of a new Deepsight Harmonizer currency launching next season as well. The feature comes alongside a number of other changes to Destiny 2's in-game material economy such as removing the Legendary Shard requirement for crafting that Bungie developers hope will streamline the gaming experience for players.
However, this new freedom in weapon crafting is not without its limitations. Players will only be able to claim a grand total of six Deepsight Harmonizers in a season: three from the season pass' free ranks and three from the paid ranks. Furthermore, players will only be able to hold one Deepsight Harmonizer at a time, so they will be encouraged to use up the currency quickly before each season's end.
Players won't be able to activate a weapon that previously had Deepsight or a weapon for which the pattern is already unlocked, and are also unable to activate any weapon purchased at the end of a raid though encounter drops are fair game. In addition, Bungie's latest TWAB stressed specifically that weapons for purchase from Destiny 2's Xur and Banshee-44 are eligible for activation.
Destiny 2 Players Can Unlock Deepsight Patterns More Quickly in Season of the Deep
To perform a Deepsight activation, most weapons require nothing more than a single Deepsight Harmonizer. Though for weapons obtained from raids, players will also need to spend fifteen Spoils of Conquest to gain pattern progress. As Bungie continues to update past Destiny 2 raids with Deepsight weapon drops, this will help accelerate the collection of many players' weapon patterns. Currently, it is unclear whether players will be able to activate Deepsight in weapons already in their vault or if this new mechanic is limited to weapons obtained during Season of the Deep and beyond. However, it is expected that players will receive their answer
When Season of the Deep drops on May 23, players should find their crafting experience much simpler. Releasing the sole acquisition of Deepsight patterns from the binds of RNG appears to strike a balance between vastly different playstyles, allowing players access to endgame content through a wider range of options. Combined with the upcoming changes to exotic drops and Destiny 2's Pinnacle rewards, the endgame as a whole looks to become less grind-heavy and shift focus back to the enjoyment of the content itself. To those that live for the grind, however, the option will always be there.
Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
