A Destiny 2 player has turned their Warlock into Preston Garvey, a Fallout 4 companion using the game’s armor transmog system. The Fallout franchise is a massively popular one, mostly thanks to the freedom it allows players to customize their characters and tackle various adventures with companions. These partners have a variety of personalities that make them feel alive, with some of the best Fallout 4 companions displaying traits that make them act independently of the player character.
Garvey is one of these companions and a member of the Commonwealth Minutemen, a faction found in the apocalyptic state of Massachusetts in Fallout 4, who is noted for asking the Sole Survivor to save settlements. While some players like the companion, his requests reached a boiling point for many others, annoying them until one gamer created a Fallout 4 PC mod to turn off Garvey’s settlement quests. While both games have some annoying companions, they also have fantastic customization systems, with Destiny 2 players using its customization to create characters like Mohg, an optional boss in Elden Ring, as well as characters from across other media.
A Redditor called Clip_It_ posted a screenshot of their Warlock as Preston Garvey, the Fallout 4 companion in the Destiny Fashion subreddit. Matching Garvey, the Warlock is sporting one of Destiny 2’s only cowboy headpieces - the TM-Moss Custom Hat made by Tex Machina and found in the Spire of the Watcher dungeon. Additionally, the player used the Cunning of the Contender Robes with possibly the Tangled Bronze shader to replicate Garvey’s brown jacket. While the recreation is not one-to-one, it is eerily familiar and also gives a glimpse of how Garvey would look as a space cowboy.
While some Redditors offered suggestions on what gear could be supplemented, others in the thread made references to Garvey asking for help saving settlements, with one user even saying, “Even in Destiny, there’s no escaping him.” Luckily, Destiny 2 rarely features such characters. The closest players have encountered in recent years is Savathun’s Ghost, Immaru, who made players turn off Destiny 2's dialogue during the 2023 Festival of the Lost purely not to hear him.
With Season of the Witch coming to a close soon, Destiny 2’s next event will be The Dawning, the annual winter-themed festival. As with events in Destiny 2, there will be a variety of new armor and shaders that players can utilize to come up with even more new characters.
