In an effort to continue improving Destiny 2's progression, Bungie is planning to change some unpopular decisions made for the upcoming Renegades expansion. Following the launch of The Edge of Fate, Destiny 2 has seen plenty of ups and downs, with the game's struggles continuing to be magnified.

Destiny 2 Player Count Down Significantly

There's no denying that Destiny 2 isn't in the greatest of places at the moment, as Bungie continues to try and fix frustrations while also improving the overall experience. However, as the weeks continue to roll on, Destiny 2 is seeing a major drop in its player base, with the Steam version recently hitting an all-time low in concurrent players. For many, the frustrations introduced within The Edge of Fate, the Portal system, the power grind, and technical issues have hurt the experience.

Bungie Announces Major Changes For Destiny 2 Renegades

As Bungie continues to try and fix things, the studio announced that it is walking back some previously announced changes that the community deemed as frustrating. First, Bungie confirmed that the player's seasonal power level will no longer reset back to 200 when Renegades launches. Instead, it'll now carry over, so the work and effort players have been putting in during the current season won't be for naught.

Secondly, the Unstable Cores will no longer reset in the new season either, which means players can keep what they currently have. Unstable Cores are a new resource in Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate, primarily used to infuse gear beyond power level 200, so they're a fairly important item for continuing to progress. Lastly, Bungie also confirmed that it's adding a catch-up mechanic for players, allowing them to boost their power to 300. Details of how this will work are going to be shared later this week in Bungie's usual blog update.

These changes were warmly received by the community, but many are hoping these are just a first step to improving the game. Many would argue that Destiny 2 still has a lot of issues to be worked out, with still a lot of time between now and the Star Wars-inspired Renegades expansion. While the expansion reveal seemed to generate plenty of buzz with fans, most would agree that Bungie still has plenty of work to do on the current game to try and stem the tide of players leaving.
