While many Destiny 2 players have likely maxed out their Obelisks and put the Season Pass grind to the side, there is still a reason to focus on Polarized Fractaline. Season of Dawn has an event coming up that will require players to have stockpiles of Fractaline in their inventory if they want to come together and complete a community task.
At present, it’s unclear what exactly this Destiny 2 task might be, but we know that it asks players to donate Polarized Fractaline to the Empyrean Foundation. There is even a Triumph in Season of Dawn that requires players donate 5,000 Polarized Fractaline, but it is only a secret Triumph and not connected to the Savior Title and Seal.
Empyrean Foundation is the upcoming Destiny 2 event that will take place in February. Many players expect it to be similar to the Vex Offensive: Final Assault, where a story-based change occurs within the world of Destiny 2 and players come together to solve the problem and propel the narrative into the next Season.
With Final Assault, however, there was no sense of progress when it came to defeating the Undying Mind in the Vex Offensive activity. The community could have killed 1 or 10,000 Undying Minds – it wouldn’t have mattered because Season of Dawn was coming regardless.
For Empyrean Foundation, though, there may be more community involvement and an overall tracker that shows progress. Perhaps the Destiny 2 community will need to donate a certain amount of Polarized Fractaline to trigger an event that ties into next Season. Bungie has set the stage for similar community events with its Mars Community Challenges at the end of Year 2, so this could be an extension of that.
No doubt plenty of players are still using their Polarized Fractaline to upgrade their Obelisks and farm the new Season of Dawn weapons, but those who may have thought they were done might want to hoard a little extra. At the very least it would be prudent to stockpile 5,000 Polarized Fractaline, if only to complete the Triumph. And if that is a key number that helps trigger a story event, it will save some time when Empyrean Foundation eventually does launch.
Players can obtain Polarized Fractaline in a number of ways:
- Weekly Obelisk Bounties
- Daily Bounties from Saint-14
- Random Reward from Strike, Sundial, Gambit, Crucible (depends on Obelisk upgrades)
- Random Drop from completing activities
- Reward from Using Fractaline Skimmer Consumable
According to the Destiny 2 roadmap for Season of Dawn, Empyrean Foundation will go live on February 4th alongside the final Sundial boss, Inotam.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
