Destiny 2 features a massive variety of content for the completion-oriented player to conquer, and new content only adds to it. As modern game design has shifted from short, completed game experiences to long, ongoing online experiences, many games continue to gain content over time. Destiny 2 is the perfect example of this modern design within the gaming industry. Online content updates over the years have only expanded upon this design idea, giving Destiny 2 players even more to sink their teeth into. With so many achievements for players across game modes, completionists have their work cut out for them.
Destiny 2's content runs the gambit between a wide variety of player-versus-environment modes like Strikes, Nightfalls, Dungeons, and Raids to player-versus-player modes like Crucible, Iron Banner, and Trials of Osiris. Generally, these modes have their own daily and weekly bounties on top of longer-term challenges for players to engage with. Another collectible aspect of these modes is the unique guns and armor individually tied to each mode. Thoroughly completing these modes over time also ties into completing most exotic quests that reward exotic loot players can't get any other way. Overall, each mode of Destiny 2 gives a large selection of loot and achievements for completionists to collect and complete.
Triumphs and Cosmetics Represent The Majority of Goals For Completionists
On top of Destiny 2's modes and loot, the first-person, free-to-play-shooter also features collectible achievements called Triumphs. These Triumphs are categorized by lifetime, the year's current seasons, and Destiny 2's different planets, with most accomplishments found within the lifetime category. The lifetime category is home to achievements based around a player's selected class, subclass, various weapon use, and Destiny 2's playlist activities like Strikes, Nightfalls, and the Crucible. Said Triumphs count toward a player's total Triumph score, giving completionists a simple way to track just how much they have completed within Destiny 2.
There are many other things to collect in Destiny 2 beyond triumphs and their associated score system. Dedicated players can spend their time collecting cosmetics to deck out their Guardians. These cosmetics vary from profile banners to armor ornaments to Shaders that wildly change a player's Guardian's armor color and texture. Another cosmetic players can grind for are Seals that act as special visual badges that other Guardians can easily see at a glance. Ultimately, these seals comprise a specific selection of triumphs players must conquer to gain access.
In-Game Lore Pages Won't Stop Players From Feeling Burnout
A more recent addition to the Destiny 2 collect-a-thon for players to partake in are pages of lore that are tied to other specific triumphs. Those lore-specific triumphs are usually tied to certain story mission completions within a current season's story mission structure. Each lore page combines into a complete book of lore that tells an extended backstory depending on the context of the unlocked lore book. With hundreds of lore pages found in Destiny 2' s modes and missions, diehard players get to collect something that also expands the scope of their gameplay through meaningful story additions.
While it is true that Destiny 2 is a perfect game for completionists, only some completionists will find Destiny 2 their perfect game. Some players find that Destiny 2's grind has too much filler and takes players an unfair amount of time for what little accomplishment they receive in return for their efforts. The problem is exacerbated by the new content Bungie releases every three months. Each new season comes with hundreds of hours' worth of new things to grind for and accomplish. At the same time, some completionists want there to be an actual end to the grind and achievements so that it can actually be completed. For players looking for an endless slew of achievements, Destiny 2 is perfect. The franchise is playing a tricky balance with what to provide its fans, but Destiny 2 players are in it for the long haul.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
