The latest update for Destiny 2 has arrived, with Bungie taking aim at resolving many of the issues that are still impacting the game, including a very strange issue with The Dawning's cookie oven. There's no denying that Destiny 2, once a live-service titan, has entered a very strange phase, one that has left the community concerned with not only the short-term future, but questioning the long-term future as well. Bungie has remained quiet on this topic, though if recent rumors are true, the studio's hand may be forced sooner than later.

Following the roadmap presented last year, Destiny 2 was set to release its next major update called Shadow and Order at the start of March. However, that plan now appears to be scrapped as rumors from industry insiders like Paul Tassi have indicated that Destiny 2: Shadow and Order is seeing a significant delay for a currently indeterminate amount of time. Bungie has yet to officially confirm the news, but with the expected March 3 release rapidly approaching, the studio will have to say something soon. For many people, the big reason for the delay is to ensure that Marathon has as much attention as possible, as it releases just 2 days after on March 5.

Marathon Update Fixes Bizarre Destiny 2 Preorder Bug

Bungie confirms a new backend update for Marathon, resolving a very bizarre preorder bug that involved the studio's other game, Destiny 2.

Unfortunately for Destiny 2 fans, it seems all hands may be on deck to support Marathon as official news for the game in 2026 has been downright scarce since the turn of the new year. For now, Bungie has continued to release new updates for Destiny 2, including the latest one, which remains committed to fixing various bugs still having an impact on the game. In fact, the patch notes for this update have even highlighted one strange issue where Eva's Dawning Oven, an important item from The Dawning limited time event, was still stuck in some player inventories. Considering that the event has been wrapped up for a few weeks now, it's a big strange that the item was able to avoid being removed and remained stuck inside inventories.

Outside of that, the update resolves a number of other bugs, including some involved with Destiny 2's Renegades Lawless Frontier activity. On Mars, Sabotage missions could sometimes have enemy attackers spawn in behind a door, resulting in them getting completely stuck and preventing the encounter's progress. Another bug caused the Compact Defender legendary Sidearm in Destiny 2 to see its damage decrease after a player equipped an Overclocked Heatsink mod to the weapon.

Naturally, this update isn't likely going to do anything to pacify players and the various concerns it has for Destiny 2. As player continue to wait for any big news on the future of Destiny 2, many have begun to wonder why the popular Iron Banner PvP mode has been missing for so long. Bungie typically rolls this limited-time event out a few times each season, but for whatever reason, it has gone missing for much longer than normal. Instead, Arms Week has appeared 3 times already. In addition, with Shadow and Order being moved possibly until May, players are wondering what this means for the future roadmap, which was expected to look similar to what Bungie offered last year. Many now assume that a potential July expansion will now be shifted further into the Fall season as well, putting it head to head with some big AAA titles.

Although rumors indicate that Destiny 3 could be in early stages of development at Bungie, there's a real fear that Bungie is winding down on Destiny 2. Bungie's priority at the moment is clearly Marathon, a game which has seemingly evolved past its various controversies and underwhelming alpha tests last year, as recent promotional materials have been received much more positively. As Marathon seemingly gains momentum, the future of Destiny 2 remains a major community talking point.
