With the release of Destiny 2 on PC, a dataminer has searched the game's files and dug up a collection of audio files, some of which appear to hint at the return of the Warlock Osiris to the Tower as an NPC. This all seems to align with the game's first expansion, titled Curse of Osiris.

It's safe to assume that Osiris will play a key role in Destiny 2's first major piece of DLC. In Destiny lore, the mysterious Warlock was the person behind the curtain of Destiny 1's Trials of Osiris mode. Osiris was exiled from the Tower and sought knowledge of the Vex. But according to the audio files found, he may very well be finally returning to the Tower, based on this voice line from Lord Shaxx:

"So the rumors are true. Osiris has returned."

While Osiris could remain outside of the Tower in a different social space, it seems likely that he will be the primary NPC and quest giver of the new expansion. Either way, Shaxx appears none too happy about Osiris's return. Another audio file has Shaxx saying:

"He's dangerous. I don't care what he says or what fool adventure he's led you on."

There are more audio files casting Osiris in a negative light explaining that, while he was the Warlock Vanguard (before Ikora Rey), he caused some major problems especially for the Warlock Guardians. The first comes from Shaxx again:

"Remember, Ikora restored the Warlock orders after Osiris was exiled. She shaped this City. He abandoned it."

And another from a random NPC:

"The Vanguard is much better with Ikora Rey than Osiris."

There has been a long running fan theory that Osiris might return if anything ever happened to the Speaker, whom Osiris had a feud with according to the lore. Now, with the fate of the Speaker uncertain after Ghaul's assault on The Last City, that might give Osiris the opportunity to return from exile and set up in the Tower. But judging by these audio files, Osiris will not return to a warm reception.

Curse of Osiris is expected to release in early December, but an official release date has not been given. Developer Bungie is planning three livestreams in November, almost certainly to discuss the upcoming expansion.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
