The reprised version of Season of the Undying's Optative returns as a viable option for Hand Cannon fans who want to shake up their arsenal. This is one of the few Void Precision Frame Hand Cannons in the game, and it's got a couple of rolls that make it stand out.

Bungie recycles content again in Week 6 of Destiny 2's Season of the Wish, but it might have gone a little too far this time.

While the Optative might not be the most mind-blowing of weapons in Destiny 2, the package it offers is solid enough to be effective in both PvE and PvP. Here are a few rolls you should keep an eye out for when playing through Season of the Wish.

Optative is a 180 RPM Void Hand Cannon with a fairly standard selection of perks. In PvE, Golden Tricorn with Repulsor Brace is the best perk combo you can get for the gun if you plan on using it with a Void build. The former grants up to a 50% damage buff while the latter provides a Void Overshield whenever a Void-debuffed target is defeated with the gun. This Optative PvE god roll will require a build that can regenerate ability energy to a reasonable degree, either via orb generation or synergy between Aspects/Fragments and armor mods for max uptime on Golden Tricorn. If you're struggling with ability energy, consider using a Demolitionist/Tricorn roll instead.

Speaking of Golden Tricorn, this perk also does wonders for the Optative in PvP. All 180 RPM Hand Cannons gain the ability to three-tap Guardians with headshots as long as they get some sort of damage buff. Players won't even need to be in a Void subclass for this, as any kill with the Optative will grant a stack of Golden Tricorn immediately after defeating an opponent, giving this perk an edge over Kill Clip since players won't need to reload.

If you're looking for something different, then an Optative with Hip-fire Grip and Offhand Strike can be an effective perk combo. It trades lethality for mobility, letting players gun down opponents while maintaining full strafe speed and accuracy. When Offhand Strike is active, Optative can hit targets up to 33 meters without suffering from damage falloff, essentially turning it into a less-lethal Last Word with better Range and max Stability.

Other noteworthy perks for this weapon include:

  • Keep Away: This perk gives a decent bump to Optative's effective range while also buffing its reload speed, assuming there are no nearby enemies. Keep Away is generally good for all mid-ranged weapons, and it's a worthy alternative to Rapid Hit if players don't mind missing out on Stability.
  • Attrition Orbs: If you're struggling with orb generation in PvE, then Attrition Orbs should help with that. As long as you can repeatedly pelt a target with Optative shots without it dying, then an Orb of Power will eventually pop out of it.
  • Zen Moment: In PvP, Precision Frame Hand Cannons are all about chaining kills. If you're the type who values consistency over lethality, then Zen Moment should take priority over damage-boosting perks.
