Bungie is just about ready to release a new Destiny 2 trailer, this time focusing on the all-new Strand subclasses and their respective combat niches. The second Darkness-derived set of abilities for Guardians to make use of, Strand represents a promising new direction that Bungie might leverage to break some long-standing ability traditions, the addition of a veritable grappling hook being just one of the notable new features. As exciting as the introduction of a new six-man activity in Destiny 2: Lightfall might be, Strand is easily the most important feature of the expansion. Much as Stasis came to define Beyond Light following its release, the same is bound to happen with Lightfall and Strand abilities, too, and it's not particularly surprising to see that much of Bungie's Destiny community is excited to learn more about it. With Lightfall slated to launch on February 28, Bungie is slowly but certainly ramping up Destiny 2's promotional engines with a series of reveal trailers. The latest of these will provide players with further insight into what Strand is, specifically, and how it's going to tie into the rest of the game's burgeoning ability ecosystem. It's already been stated that some of the new combat options include summoning and enemy displacement, for example, but the new trailer - which is slated to launch on February 7 - should provide a slightly better overview of what's to come.
It may be worthwhile to set one's expectations in check, however. It is likely that the new Strand trailer will be similar to the Destiny 2:Lightfall Exotic showcase, which was decidedly short and didn't show all the new unique items coming as part of the expansion. Instead of showing everything off, it would appear that Bungie is currently most interested in setting the tone of the Lightfall DLC, with players getting to discover all the goodies themselves in late February.
Not everything is necessarily perfect, it's worth pointing out. Some Destiny 2 Hunters don't like their Strand Exotic, for example, as it once again doubles down on making the Hunter a PvP powerhouse that lacks dedicated PvE utility. It remains to be seen if Bungie ends up changing the Exotic helmet ahead of release, but so far, things aren't necessarily looking stellar for Hunters.
In the interim, it's no big surprise that Destiny 2 isn't leaving its other subclasses in the dust now that a new one is on the horizon. With a plethora of new Exotics on show, one of the highlights is Destiny 2's new heavy Exotic Winterbite glaive. It does remain yet to be seen whether it ends up suffering from the same problems that plague Salvation's Grip, granted, but it should be an interesting showpiece no matter what.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
