Rite of the Nine features Spire of the Watcher, Prophecy, and Ghosts of the Deep, 3 dungeons in Destiny 2 with unique collectibles to discover.

With 3 dungeons, each with 3 encounters, players might want to check in to see the hardest dungeon encounter that they will face in the Rite of the Nine event for Destiny 2, and perhaps it will give them the confidence they need to come prepared for the hardest dungeon encounters.

9 The Hexahedron

The Prophecy dungeon from Destiny 2.
The Prophecy dungeon from Destiny 2.
  • Dungeon: Prophecy
  • Encounter: Two

Upon starting the second encounter of Prophecy, players might be overwhelmed. After all, it may use the same mechanics as the first encounter with the Light and Dark motes, but now players are in a cube-shaped room that turns on its head whenever players use the motes. For those unprepared, this encounter can be confusing, but it’s not deadly.

The ads are easy to kill, and the boss feels like it can be killed with just a few shots. However, it’s getting to the final part that’s the real challenge. The easiest way to complete the encounter is to look up and at the walls to see where Toland, the taken orb, is located, and then use either Light or Dark motes on the correct plate to cleanse and proceed.

8 Phalanx Echo

A Shielding Foe That Uses Light as a Puzzle

  • Dungeon: Prophecy
  • Encounter: One

The Phalanx Echo is the first encounter of Prophecy, and a very easy boss to fight once players learn its mechanics. In order to initiate damage with the Phalanx Echo, players just need to kill the Taken Knights while they are in the light or in the shadow of objects to acquire either Light or Dark motes and deposit them.

Players need to repeat the process four times, which is quicker than one might think, and then players get the luxury of damaging the Phalanx Echo. While this Taken Cabal does use a shield, players can easily negate it and stun the Phalanx Echo with competent damage, making for an easy encounter.

7 Hive Ritual

Defeat Light-Bearing Wizards to Match Symbols and Disrupt the Ritual

The first encounter of Ghosts of the Deep is an easy one, but it can be a tad tedious. The Hive Ritual encounter will have players battle through endless hordes of Lucent Hive, following a trail of ooze to reach a location with a Hive symbol that must be remembered as players fight through the Lucent Hive to destroy the Light-Bearer Hive Wizard and its Ghost.

Destiny 2: Eternal Title Guide (All Triumphs)

The Rite of the Nine event in Destiny 2 provides players with greater challenges from classic dungeons in order to earn the Eternal title.

With the Ghost destroyed, players have over a minute to return to the central ritual, activate deepsight and figure out and select the symbol that was above the Lightbearer Hive Wizard before it was defeated. While simple in process, this does take quite a while to repeat three times or more.

6 Ascend the Spire

Climb the Dreaded Spire by Completing Arc Circuits

Ascend the Spire
  • Dungeon: Spire of the Watcher
  • Encounter: One

The first encounter of Spire of the Watcher isn’t hard, but it does require some level of skill and understanding. The encounter itself will have players collect arctrition from a Minotaur, where it then starts a race against the clock for players to shoot the entry point of an arc node, following the wires through to the elevator, and then repeating on the other side.

Each level in Ascend the Spire has Vex threats and two circuits to follow, and while players aren’t going to struggle with the enemies, they may struggle with trying to follow the circuits while they are getting shot at as well as attempting to keep the arctrition buff active.

5 Kell Echo

Battle Taken Forces to Destroy a Boss That’s Always on the Move

  • Dungeon: Prophecy
  • Encounter: Three

The Kell Echo boss fight is the finale of the Prophecy dungeon, and it’s a boss that just won’t quit. Initiating the damage phase can be deadly for players, since the Kell Echo will shoot players from its safe room, while players have to collect Light or Dark nodes to disrupt the shields and kill the Taken Ogres that emerge from victory.

Once players manage to reach the damage phase and sink into the boss encounter room, they will have a chase on their hands. The Kell Echo will constantly teleport forward and throw blasts at the player that send them back. If players stray behind, then Taken corruption kills them, but competent players should wipe the Kell Echo out in just a single phase.

4 Akelous, the Siren’s Current

Connect Four Circuits and Prepare to Chase Down the Boss

Akelous, the Siren’s Current
  • Dungeon: Spire of the Watcher
  • Encounter: Two

Akelous is an interesting Vex boss fight that will have players always on the move. Akelous will chase them like a Vex Harpy, all while players try to complete four circuits with arctrition. Upon engaging with the final circuit, players will need to quickly destroy the orbs on Akelous’ plates in order to activate the damage phase. The quicker the players are, the more time they have to fight – or else Akelous is going to bounce them to their doom.

Akelous doesn’t deal the most damage, but he does have a large health pool that can prevent players from conquering this encounter if they are not prepared. Trace Rifles for Akelous’ orbs, and Linear Fusion Rifles for long-ranged shots of his central eye are the key, because this boss does not stand still for a moment.

3 Persys, Primordial Ruin

The Powerful Vex Wyvern That Will Bring Players Into a Meltdown

Persys, Primordial Ruin
  • Dungeon: Spire of the Watcher
  • Encounter: Third

Persys is the final boss in Spire of the Watcher, and he’s a real challenge to come up against. Persys will pursue players at all times, attempting to stomp on them and fire deadly void blasts, all while exploding Vex and other deadly foot soldiers will try to put an end to the Guardians. Getting to the damage phase is a race in itself due to arctrition being on a timer, but the trouble doesn’t stop there.

The best Destiny expansions elevate their respective games, offering new campaigns while also providing some much needed quality-of-life improvements.

Once players have trapped Persys in the reactor room, they can initiate the damage phase, but failing to shoot the nodes at the right speed will cause players to restart the phase. Even in the damage phase, Persys is hard to stun and won’t relent with his attacks, even with a Well of Radiance.

2 Ecthar, the Shield of Savathun

A Light-Bearing Knight With Devastating Void Attacks

Ecthar, the Shield of Savathun
  • Dungeon: Ghosts of the Deep
  • Encounter: Second

Echtar deserves his name as the Shield of Savathun, because there’s truly no breaching his attacks. Ecthar is a menace, forcing players to use Void resistance mods if they want a chance to survive his deadly attacks. Even once Ecthar has delved into the depths of the water, players are forced to join him in search of specific runes. Failing to activate the correct rune is instant death, but Echtar doesn’t make it easy, since he’s chasing players underwater without rest.

It's not simple on the surface either, as the surviving players must fight never-ending ads and defeat the Light-Bearing Wizards to initiate a damage phase that doesn’t last too long, and can be obstructed further because of Ecthar’s shields and barriers that he places up.

1 Simmumah ur-Nokru, Lucent Necromancer

A Powerful Hive Wizard With Extremely Strong Shields and Deadly Arc Moths

Destiny-2-Ghosts-of-the-Deep-Loot-Boss (1)-1
  • Dungeon: Ghosts of the Deep
  • Encounter: Third

Simmumah ur-Nokru is the true nightmare, the ultimate halting of the ETERNITY title during the Rite of the Nine event simply because this wizard deals so much damage, has so much health and shields, while also relying on players to engage in the final encounter of Ghosts of the Deep’s mechanics where players must fight Lucent Hive Lightbearers.

Not only will players have to sync up symbols across Oryx’s corpse, but they will also need to actively try to avoid Simmumah’s relentless arc blasts and moth attacks that will destroy players, especially on harder difficulties. Even when players get to the damage phase, Simmumah has an intense shield to destroy, and they have to worry about dealing enough damage to a teleporting boss that rips them apart.
