Today Bungie launched its Guardian Games event for Destiny 2 along with a significant balance patch and update. Usually, when Bungie updates the game files in Destiny 2, the developers add a few items that are meant for later in the season and this week’s patch is no different. However, those that don’t want upcoming events in Season of the Worthy (or beyond) should stop reading here, as there will be spoilers for secret missions.

Previously, there was a Destiny 2 datamine that revealed a few details about the return of Felwinter’s Lie, a legendary shotgun from Destiny 1. Many will remember Felwinter’s Lie as the best shotgun in the game because of its extreme range and deadly accuracy. The right perk roll on Felwinter’s Lie turned the weapon into a “sniper” capable of one-shotting any enemy. It was a source of frustration for those that didn't have it, and a crutch for those that did.

Now, a full Destiny 2 file entry has been added for Felwinter’s Lie, confirming that the legendary shotgun will be returning to the game. On top of that, there is now a file entry for Shot Package, the perk that made the shotgun so deadly. For those that might not know, the shot package perk in Destiny 1 grouped the pellets of any shotgun into a tight circle, ensuring that a headshot was an instant kill from long range.

But Shot Package in Destiny 2 is apparently working a little differently. Instead of being a perk that can roll on Felwinter’s Lie, it appears that this is a new shotgun frame. The idea is still the same – the frame is modified to have more uniform pellet spread – but it doesn’t take a perk slot.

And finally, there is a file entry that reveals a new mission called “The Lie” that will be available from Ana Bray on Mars. Presumably, this is the start to the quest to obtain Felwinter’s Lie, which some believe will send players back to some Destiny 1 destinations seen in the Rise of Iron DLC.

Because this is merely a datamine, there is a lot of mystery still involved, and it’s possible that this weapon will never actually appear. However, if one assumes everything is real, then there is likely a new secret mission on the way that unlocks the Felwinter’s Lie shotgun. But contrary to rumors, the shotgun is not an exotic weapon even though it does have the signature shot package perk, only in a different form.

When exactly the mission might go live is unclear, but Destiny 2 players currently have their plates full with the Guardian Games event and the launch of Grandmaster Nightfall Strikes. Most likely, this will be a mission that triggers close to the end of this season, and possibly leads into the storyline of the next.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
