Ergo Sum was introduced to Destiny 2 players in The Final Shape as the Exotic Energy Sword that allows them to forge their own fates. Ergo Sum is a great weapon in its own right, and the fact that players can find plenty of different perks and Exotic Traits to enhance their builds only heightens that fact. Yet, a weapon can always be better, and the best Exotics in Destiny 2 will often be accompanied by a Catalyst, something that Ergo Sum recently received.

Destiny 2: How To Get Ergo Sum

Guardians can forge their own destiny by acquiring Ergo Sum, a unique Exotic Sword in Destiny 2: The Final Shape.

To claim the Ergo Sum Catalyst is no easy task, and players are going to need to bring their all if they are to succeed against the last remnants of the Witness and claim their great prize. Listed below, is just how players can get the Ergo Sum Catalyst, and what exactly it does to determine whether it’s worth it or not.

Complete Grandmaster Excision

In order to obtain the Ergo Sum Catalyst, players must complete the Excision activity located on the Pale Heart on Grandmaster difficulty. No other version of Excision will work, and players must enter into Excision and complete it to earn their reward. The Ergo Sum Catalyst will be a guaranteed drop for every player who completes this activity, but by no means is it going to be easy.

The Grandmaster version of Excision requires players to search for their own Fireteam, since it is not matchmade, meaning they will need 12 players in total. Revives are limited and can be obtained by killing Champions that now appear, alongside other enemies that are at a higher Power Level of 2020.

For solo players, Grandmaster Excision is still entirely possible, and using Fireteam Finder on the Destiny 2 app is great for finding like-minded players who want to get this activity done. Players can search through Fireteam Finder to locate players looking for teams with all sorts of requirements that may fit what they are comfortable with.

Ergo Sum Catalyst, Explained

ergo sum catalyst description
  • Tranasendent Steel: Dealing damage with a Transcendent grenade grants Ergo Sum ammo.

With Ergo Sum equipped, players can inspect the Weapon Mods to discover the Ergo Sum Catalyst, which will require players to defeat targets with this weapon to unlock the Catalyst upgrade. It usually takes around 400 kills to activate the Catalyst, so head to some of the best PvE farming spots like Shuro Chi in The Last Wish raid, Dares of Eternity, the start of Grasp of Avarice, and Lightfall’s Breakneck mission. Players can inspect the weapon to see the percentage of targets defeated they need, or head to the Catalyst Tab in the Collections page to tag it for inspection whenever they activate their Ghost.

For some players, the Ergo Sum Catalyst might seem a tad underwhelming, as it doesn’t exactly grant any extreme bonuses to playstyles and damage opportunities. The Catalyst only works when players are using Prismatic, as they will need to use Transcendent grenades to earn more ammo. Whilst free ammo for Ergo Sum is always nice, it’s not essential, especially with the amount of special ammo bricks that can spawn by simply killing enemies.
