Destiny 2 has found some great success with fans by delivering experiences like the hidden Whisper of the Worm mission and the recently unlocked Shattered Throne dungeon. These have been challenging and surprising pieces of content that players have latched onto, and it appears that similar experiences are likely coming in the game's upcoming Year 2 DLC attached to the game's Annual Pass.
When developer Bungie first tried to explain to fans what they would receive in the Destiny 2 Annual Pass, it was a bit confusing. Bungie revealed that the three content releases coming over the next year would not contain traditional story campaigns or new destinations like Curse of Osiris or Warmind. While that may have been a bit of a head-scratcher then, now that the Forsaken expansion has released and players have learned how the game's activities, lore, and gear system have changed, a clearer picture of what to expect is emerging.
Previously, Bungie said these releases would deliver "more pinnacle activities [and] more endgame challenges." With the reveal of Forsaken's activities like Ascendant Challenges, Blind Well, and The Shattered Throne dungeon, this may help explain what players can expect. To go with that, in a recent interview, Bungie game director Steve Cotton said that activities like the Shattered Throne are the kind of experiences Bungie will continue to deliver in the future:
"I hope we are able to deliver more of that type of experience in the future. I mean yeah, that is fair to say that those type of activities are interesting to us and I think interesting to the players."
After making that comment, Bungie's Scott Taylor jumped in and clarified that Cotton was not specifically confirming more dungeons. Cotton agreed, saying "there are a lot of different activities that we’re really excited about moving forward."
It's obvious that Bungie doesn't want to announce anything coming in these future premium content drops too soon, but these recent comments shed some new light on the kind of direction Bungie is looking to take Destiny 2 over the course of Year 2.
The releases associated with the Annual Pass include Black Armory in Winter 2018, Joker’s Wild in Spring 2019, and Penumbra in Summer 2019.
Destiny 2: Forsaken is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
