Summary

  • Destiny 2 players are creating tributes to characters from various media, like Star Wars and Marvel, through character customization.
  • Star Wars characters in Destiny 2 have sparked creativity among players, with custom versions of Darth Nihilus being a standout example.
  • The collaboration between Destiny 2 and Star Wars continues to inspire players to recreate iconic villains from both universes.

A Destiny 2 player recently modeled their playable character after the dreaded Darth Nihilus from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Destiny 2 lets players customize their in-game Guardian, and this has naturally led to tributes of characters from other video games like Hollow Knight and Doom: The Dark Ages. Comics and movies have also been a healthy source of inspiration, with Destiny 2 characters being themed after the titular Wall-E or Carnage from Marvel Comics.

Star Wars encompasses all these different media and beyond, and Destiny 2’s sci-fi aesthetic makes it a natural fit for the heroes and villains of the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Destiny 2 has already had an official crossover with Star Wars earlier this year, bringing with it new Fashions modeled after Darth Vader, General Grievous, and the Empire’s infamous Stormtroopers. This only scratches the surface of the Dark Side’s forces, and some Destiny 2 players are creating their own takes on classic villains from even the age of the Old Republic.

Destiny 2’s Rite of the Nine Event Deserves the Onslaught Treatment

Destiny 2’s Onslaught game mode is a permanent addition, and the new Rite of the Nine event arguably deserves the same treatment.

This is the case with Reddit user iixVanquishxX, who recently shared their custom version of KOTOR 2’s Darth Nilhilus on r/DestinyFashion. This Hunter-class Guardian is a near-match for the undead dark lord, featuring a black hood, matching robes, and a skull-like mask to drive fear into anyone unlucky to be in Nihilus’s path. IixVanquishxX even equipped their character with Vader’s red lightsaber in one of the shared images with which to battle any opposition to the Sith.

Destiny 2 Player Recreates KOTOR 2’s Darth Nihilus

Darth Nihilus was first introduced in 2004’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 and is considered by many fans to be one of the scariest Sith Lords in the Star Wars mythos. Like many dark Force users, Nihilus was once a Jedi, but he stands out in his vampiric nature. Surviving the Mass Shadow Generator superweapon used to destroy Malachor V as a “wound in the Force,” Nihilus is driven by an all-consuming need to feed on other Force-sensitive individuals - which in turn leads him to join Darth Traya's Sith Triumvirate.

While Darth Nihilus currently isn’t a part of Disney’s official Star Wars continuity, he remains one of the most memorable characters to come from the franchise’s many different video games due to his unique nature and ominous design. These qualities are front and center in iixVanquishxX’s custom Destiny 2 Guardian, which is likely unleashing a wave of darkness and terror across Bungie’s multiplayer sci-fi shooter.
