While Destiny 2 is no stranger to various balancing issues, with each passing season introducing at least one new meta-breaking weapon into the mix, players seem to be quite thrilled with how Bungie has handled its new Raid Exotic, the Conditional Finality shotgun. The game's very first double-barrel shotgun is loaded with functionality, but not to a game-breaking extent.
Destiny 2's Conditional Finality is, in effect, the Super Shotgun from the Doom franchise. What makes it unique and special, though, is that it fires one round at a time, alternating between Stasis and Solar elemental effects. To spice things up, hitting the majority of a given round's pellets applies an extra effect: freeze for the Status round and explosion for the Solar round, making the weapon exceedingly effective at a short range.
The Destiny 2 community has taken to discussing the meticulous balancing of Conditional Finality after Reddit user Lankygit pointed out the weapon's many qualities. According to Lankygit, Conditional Finality is easily one of the best Raid Exotics Bungie has pushed out yet, as it's effective and unique without overstepping its boundaries. This point was corroborated further by the amusingly named user Conditional-Finality, who added that even though the weapon can only dish out serious damage at a short range, it can apply its unique elemental effects from a distance.
Another thing that makes Conditional Finality a good choice is the fact that its combined elemental effects easily deal with the game's Champion-tier enemies. Since some of Destiny 2's anti-Champion mods are now broken, this bolsters the shotgun's flexibility by a fair margin, making it surprisingly useful in both casual and endgame-tier content, which isn't often the case with Exotic weaponry.
One of the most important features of Conditional Finality, according to the Destiny community members, is the fact that it doesn't put players without it at an immediate disadvantage, as was the case with Vex Mythoclast for a while. This sits in stark comparison to Destiny 2's The Immortal Trials of Osiris SMG, which is all but certain to be nerfed sooner or later.
While the upcoming mid-season rebalancing patch for Destiny 2 is bound to prop up some Exotics that had been overlooked up until now, it's unlikely that any of them will intrude upon Conditional Finality's niche and utility. Naturally, the fact remains that this unique shotgun is the exception to the rule and that Bungie isn't usually quite so successful in its attempts to balance the game's hundreds of weapons in a given meta.
Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
