Destiny 2 has been steadily introducing tons of increasingly powerful buildcrafting tools with each new update since the game’s launch, building up a massive collection of deadly weapons for players to choose from. Overall, weapon variety throughout the Destiny franchise has come a long way since the original game, with common legendary weapons in Destiny 2 often outperforming even some of the best Exotic weapons from the original Destiny, for the most part at least.
However, despite how far it has already come, the Destiny franchise still has plenty of room to grow with new weapons, as is evidenced by a recurring trend in Destiny 2 to blur the lines between weapon types. A prime example of this is the new Choir Of One Exotic weapon, which provides the top-tier add-clear expected of an Exotic auto rifle, except it packs an extra punch by using special ammo. Despite being the first auto rifle of its kind, this weapon is part of a long, growing list of weapons that blur the lines between the existing weapon types in Destiny 2. Going forward, Destiny 2 should take this trend to a new extreme by continuing to introduce new hybrid weapons and weapon types.
Destiny 2’s New Buildcrafting Tools Are Breaking Boundaries
Destiny 2’s Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans Have More In Common Than Not
The lines between the character classes have been blurred ever since the 3.0 Subclasses were introduced, where Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks each gained access to various abilities that were previously exclusive to a specific character class. More recently, in Destiny 2’s latest expansion, the new Exotic Class Items providing a variety of class-specific Exotic armor perks have taken this to new heights. While this trend has seemingly reached its limits for blending the three character classes together, Exotic and legendary weapons on the other hand still have several boundaries left to break.
Beyond Subclass abilities and Exotic armor perks, a similar, recurring trend has also been developing with some of the new weapons in Destiny 2, with some weapons combining the best parts of two distinct weapon types into one convenient package. A prime example of this is the new Choir Of One Exotic auto-rifle, which is the first auto-rifle in the Destiny franchise to use special ammo, but it should mark a turning point for the game's arsenal moving forward.
The Choir of One Exotic can be earned by completing the Encore Exotic Mission in Destiny 2.
The Future of Destiny 2 Is More Hybrid Weapons and Weapon Types
While the new Choir Of One Exotic may be the first auto-rifle of its kind, there are plenty of existing weapons that have paved this path for weapons that use different ammo types than their common counterparts, some of which have been available in Destiny 2 for many years, like the Legend of Acrius and the Leviathan’s Breath. Strictly mentioning Exotic weapons, there is already a handful of weapons that fall into this category by now. Not to mention, there are also entire legendary weapon archetypes that also fit this description, namely the special-ammo grenade launchers and sidearms.
Given this direction that the game has been heading in, weapons like these that have been breaking the boundaries between buildcrafting tools are presumably a sign of things to come, where this trend will continue to reach new extremes. So in the case of the new Choir Of One Exotic that was recently introduced in Destiny 2’s Episode: Echoes final act, this weapon is far from the beginning of this trend, but it should be the tip of the iceberg for where things could go, and what kinds of unique hybrid builds might be possible in Destiny 2’s future with more weapons coming with different ammo types. Ultimately, it seems like only a matter of time until every weapon type is available in every weapon slot, in one way or another.
