Chapters 4 and 5 of the popular retro-style RPG Deltarune will both be released by the end of 2025, according to newly revealed information from its creator. Fans of Deltarune have been waiting more than three years since the release of the second chapter, and Toby Fox has made a commitment to catching them up with two big releases in a single year.
Independent developer Fox had a huge breakthrough in 2015 with his first big release, Undertale, a pixelated RPG filled with humor, lovable villains, bullet hell action, and a rewarding ending for not killing anyone. While it hasn't quite matched its predecessor's explosive degree of success, Deltarune debuted its first chapter on Halloween 2018, bearing a lot of similarities to Undertale. Both it and the second chapter, which was released nearly three years later, have been generally well-received by the public, but fans have been left waiting since September 2021 for more content.
What to Expect From Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4
Deltarune creator Toby Fox recently announced his progress on Chapter 5, here's everything to expect from the upcoming release of Chapters 3 and 4.
That's about to change in a big way, as the game creator made a post on his official Twitter account on Halloween day 2024 stating that chapters 3 and 4 "will 100% come out in 2025." Plans to release chapters 3 and 4 simultaneously have been known for a long time, with the indie developer using social media and his own newsletter to provide regular development updates to his fans. Three months ago, Fox provided a progress update on Deltarune Chapter 4 saying that although development was nearly complete, fans should expect to wait a while to actually play it. He wants the next two chapters to launch on all available platforms at the same time, rather than past chapters' history of hitting PC ahead of consoles, and stated that localization work was still needed to release both English and Japanese language options.
Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 are Coming in 2025
Fox followed up with a Deltarune progress update in mid-September, once again stating that general development of chapters 3 and 4 was basically complete, with testing and Japanese localization seeming to be their main holdups. While his developer updates have mainly focused on the technical side of progress rather than dropping teasers and reveals, he also announced in September that upcoming chapters would include some cut content from Deltarune Chapter 2, including some previously unused music tracks and boss designs.
While only two chapters are available now, Fox is already working daily on Deltrarune Chapter 5. With seven chapters planned in total, that means the 2025 releases are still only the middle part of the story, so fans should have a lot more heartwarming humor in the Undertale-parallel story in years to come.
