Deep Rock Galactic creator Ghost Ship Games has announced a new game called Guntouchables, which will be published under its Ghost Ship Publishing banner. Coming from Danish developer Game Swing, Guntouchables is a shooter title with an emphasis on co-op gameplay, similar to Deep Rock Galactic.
Established in 2016, Ghost Ship Games struck gold with its first release, Deep Rock Galactic, whose popularity has grown steadily since rolling out four years ago. After its acquisition by Embracer Group in 2021, Ghost Ship started its own publishing arm while also continuing as a development studio. It kicked off its spell as a publisher with the early access launches of Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor and SpellRogue this year. Now, it is preparing to ship its next game as a publisher, Guntouchables, soon.
Guntouchables is an online co-op shooter title with roguelike elements, played from a top-down perspective. The action game is scheduled to release in early access on Steam in Spring 2025. It revolves around four unlikely heroes, or Doomsday Preppers, who fight to survive against hordes of terrifying mutants in a post-apocalyptic world. The Vampire Survivors-like title supports co-op sessions for a total of up to four players and features four different survivors to choose from, namely Alfred the Sharpshooter, Mr Bang the Commando, Karen the Scouter, and Marcus the Doctor. Each of these playable characters comes with their own skills and offers unique upgrades. While Alfred's focused shooting deals double the damage, Mr Bang can use heavy grenades to take out mutant swarms.
Guntouchables Offers Roguelike Gameplay Loop with a Twist
According to the devs, what separates Guntouchables from other co-op roguelike titles is how the player's enemies also evolve alongside them. To be more precise, as players progress through the game and unlock new upgrades---such as the ability to dash and perks like health buff and speed buff---the mutants also improve and get more challenging. Upon successfully clearing a level, players are required to vote and choose how the mutants develop going into the next mission. For instance, they can choose among making mutants faster, or giving them the ability to spread fire, or equipping them to cause "chain lightning" and stun the player.
Ghost Ship Publishing CEO Soren Lundgaard described Guntouchables as a co-op shooter with "addictive elements" and called it a "great fit" for the publisher. On the flipside, Game Swing CEO Martin Kai Sommer bet big on the forthcoming game, calling it the "culmination" of the indie studio's decade-plus experience. When Guntouchables comes out next year, it will be interesting to see if the Ghost Ship-published game picked some of what makes Deep Rock Galactic so engaging.
