How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a simple puzzle game that went viral in early 2022. The fact that the game was free and without ads was a big draw, along with the ease of play, and the ease of sharing answers without spoiling it for others made Wordle one of the best mobile games of 2022. However, this popularity also spawned a whole lot of clones. The original version, which is the subject of this article, is the New York Times Games version.

Originally made by an indie developer, the New York Times bought Wordle in early 2022. While there are many other clones and copycats, they will have different answers and may have slight different rules from what is listed here.

To start, choose a great starting Wordle word. This word should have a variety of common letters in it, be five letters long, and a real English word. Wordle answers don't repeat and can't be plural nouns ending in S or ES, so these should be avoided.
Type the starting word into the Wordle website.
Press enter.
The letters will change colors. Green letters are right while gray are wrong. Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place or places in the word.
Using these clues, try another word.
The letters of this word will also change, getting players even closer to the answer of the day.
Players have six total tries.
