A version of the new Death Stranding trailer shown in Japan has an impressive boss battle not seen in versions shown elsewhere in the world. This version of the trailer also has a scene between Emilia and Higgs, the characters played by Lindsay Wagner and Troy Baker.
One of the most exciting scenes in the new Death Stranding trailer was when Sam tries to escape from the creatures in the tar. In the English language version of the trailer, Sam crawls through the tar to try to get away from something, but in the version of the trailer shown in Japan, this scene turns into a boss battle. The extended gameplay scene posted to YouTube by a Death Stranding fan shows Sam trying to shoot a huge creature that jumps out of the tar and tries to eat him, its black tentacles waving in the air.
After that boss battle, there is then a scene which shows Emilia with a gold mask on her face. Higgs then steps out of the shadows and puts his arm around her. It's unclear what the masks mean as Higgs and Emilia wear gold masks and characters like Die Hardman have black masks on. Hideo Kojima, the creator of Death Stranding, seems to enjoy leaving fans guessing so they may not get an answer to that one for a while.
The extended version of the new Death Stranding trailer only adds around 25 seconds of footage, but it shows that there is so much left to learn about the game. Kojima has said that Death Stranding's gameplay and story are connected and that the game is about forming connections with other people. However, fans are still not sure what these connections will look like and how the content in the trailers, such as the people in the tar, the babies in pods, and monsters like those seen in the trailer from Japan, have anything to do with it.
Positively, fans don't have long until they can get their hands on the game and try to figure some of this out properly, not just by piecing together the game's trailers. As well as the new gameplay footage, Sony and Kojima Productions have also confirmed the game's release date, pre-order bonuses and the collector's editions. Fans will be able to find some answers to the game's biggest mysteries, such as where the tar creatures came from, later this year.
Death Stranding will be released on November 8, 2019 for PS4.
