While this ultimately put its release date under two years away, it was still an ambiguous declaration, leaving fans in the dark with overwhelming uncertainty about when they might finally get their hands on the highly anticipated sequel. This was exacerbated by the fact that games don't always launch in their anticipated release window when that window is as wide open as an entire year.

Ghost of Yotei's was announced via trailer in September 2024, with the trailer disclosing the game's release window with a broad target of 2025. Now that it has been over 6 months since its announcement with no further reveals, and 2025 is now heading into its second quarter, the prospect of a 2025 release for Ghost of Yotei is looking less likely.
Ghost of Tsushima initially launched in July 2020, so Ghost of Yotei may target a summer 2025 release date to coincide with its predecessor.
That being said, it took Death Stranding 2 over a year to go from targeting a broad 2025 release window to confirming a solid release date within that year, so the same can be expected of Ghost of Yotei. While Ghost of Tsushima's successor likely won't launch until much later in the year due to a lack of information about the game, Death Stranding 2's willingness to keep its promise is enough reason to maintain hope that Ghost of Yotei will as well, and fans will get to begin their journey with Atsu through Ezo before the year comes to close.
