Kojima Productions recently revealed the Collector's Edition for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, but the studio has received a huge amount of criticism from fans due to the lack of physical game included in the pricey edition. Death Stranding 2's Collector's Edition comes with various in-game items, physical collectibles, and the full game. However, unlike other Collector's Editions, players will only receive a digital code to download Death Stranding 2 and not a physical copy of the game.
Shortly after details on Death Stranding 2's pre-order details and Collector's Edition were leaked online, Kojima Productions revealed a lengthy new trailer for the highly anticipated sequel. The ten-minute-long trailer not only gave fans an extensive look at the game, but also confirmed a June 26, 2025 release date for Death Stranding 2. With the game's release date just a few months away, pre-orders for all editions of Death Stranding 2 are set to go live on March 17, but PlayStation and Kojima Productions may have a hard time selling the Collector's Edition as many fans aren't happy with its lack of physical game.
Why Pacific Rim Fans Should Keep an Eye on Death Stranding 2

Death Stranding 2's Collector's Edition Has No Physical Game
Following the reveal of Death Stranding 2's Collector's Edition, fans took to Twitter to blast Kojima Productions and PlayStation for not including a physical copy of the game. Twitter user Nitroid says it sets a "very poor precedent," while Nuno da Silva described it as "extremely anti-consumer." Other users, such as Lance McDonald, pointed out that not including a physical copy in a Collector's Edition goes against the point of a Collector's Edition. It's also not just Twitter users blasting the Collector's Edition either, as fans on Reddit have called it a "joke" for not including a physical disc or artbook and only consisting of "mostly digital unlocks."
In total, players can choose between three different versions of Death Stranding 2. For $69.99, the Standard edition comes with nothing more than the game and some pre-order bonuses if purchased before its release, while the Digital Deluxe edition (which is priced at $79.99) comes with 48 hours early access and numerous in-game items, such as patches and an early unlock for the Machine Gun. Finally, there's the Collector's Edition, which will set fans back $229 and comes with all of the previously mentioned content and more, including a collector's box, 15” Magellan Man Statue, 3” Dollman figurine, Art cards, and a letter from Metal Gear and Death Stranding creator, Hideo Kojima.
With a firm release date now set, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will contribute to a stacked year for gaming. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has already received rave reviews and cemented itself as a Game of the Year contender for 2025, followed by Hazelight Studios' latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, which has also received near-perfect reviews from both players and critics. With the year only just beginning and highly anticipated titles like Grand Theft Auto 6 also targeting a 2025 release, it's shaping up to be a monumental year for gamers.
