Death Stranding 2: On the Beach's Australia map is absolutely massive. As the game's main map, nearly everything you can do takes place in this single region. The game's opening region – Mexico – serves as the tutorial stage before releasing Sam into the massive continent down under. With 36 preppers and facilities spread throughout the region, Australia has the same number of locations as the entirety of Death Stranding. In this guide, we'll show you where to find every location in Australia, and a complete list of every connection level reward in Death Stranding 2.

All Southwestern Australia Preppers & Connection Rewards in Death Stranding 2

Southwestern Australia:

The first region Sam connects after crossing through the Plate Gate is southwestern Australia. There are five locations in southwestern Australia, which include three prepper shelters, one observatory, and one knot city. The list, presented in the order they were connected to the chiral network, is as follows:

• The Government Base – Old Oz
• The Lone Commander
• Western Environmental Observatory – Peter Gates
• The Musician – Gen Hoshino
• West Fort Knot – Olivia Westbury

The Government Base Location & Rewards:

The Government Base is located slightly northeast of the Plate Gate in southwestern Australia. It is a required connection point for the Chiral Network, and as such, cannot be missed.

The Lone Commander:

The Lone Commander is the first prepper that is located through a Sub-Order, in this case, Sub-Order 100. While it may technically be considered 'optional,' choosing to forgo the Lone Commander at this early point in the game would mean you would lose out on an incredibly useful weapon. The Lone Commander is located to the east of the Government Base. Take on Sub-Order 100, and you'll find the short trip is well worth it.

Keep in mind that The Lone Commander will not connect to the Chiral Network after the first delivery. We had to complete Sub-Order 100 and Sub-Order 101 to convince the Lone Commander to trust Sam. Sub-Order 101 can be started at The Lone Commander's terminal, immediately after completing Sub-Order 100.

Western Environmental Observatory Location & Rewards

The Western Environmental Observatory is located to the northwest of the Government Base, and is first encountered during Order 10. When Sam first arrives at the observatory, it is surrounded by enemy brigands, so make sure you are ready for a fight.

The Musician Location & Rewards:

Gen Hoshino – the prepper also known as The Musician – is located on the western edge of the massive crater that sits to the east of this route. After connecting the observatory, The Musician will be your next stop during Order 11.

West Fort Knot Location & Rewards:

West Fort Knot, and its key staff member, Olivia Westbury, will be the final location Sam encounters on this first leg of his journey. The fort is located near the center of the west coast of Australia. There are two rewards that you'll unlock through West Fort Knot that aren't tied directly to the connection level. They are the Pick-Up Off-Roader, and the PINO Sunglasses, which are unlocked after completing Order 13.

All Northwestern Australia Locations & Connection Rewards in Death Stranding 2

Northwestern Australia:

The next stage of Sam's journey is broken up into two sections, and takes Sam through the canyon northeast of West Fort Knot, then up through the delta in the continent's northwest corner. Then, after a quick trip back to West Fort Knot, you head back north, then east, connecting several facilities on your way to Heartman's Lab. You'll find the following facilities and shelters in the northwest region:

Section 1:

• Rainbow Valley – Glenn Rain
• Rainy's Shelter
• Animal Shelter – Animal Shelter Staff
• Northern Environmental Observatory – MIke Northcote
• The Inventor

Section 2:

• F2 South Distribution Center – Samson Hook
• The Dowser
• The Architect
• Heartman's Lab – The Hydrologist

Rainbow Valley Location & Rewards:

Rainbow Valley is the first facility Sam will connect after leaving West Fort Knot. If you follow the river northeast out of the city, you'll encounter Rainbow Valley not long after entering the canyon area.

Rainy's Shelter Location & Rewards:

Shortly after picking up Rainy, she'll send you a message on the SSS explaining that there appears to be someone in her former shelter. This will happen a bit later in the game, but the shelter is found directly across the river from Rainbow Valley. We won't spoil the surprise of what you'll find in her shelter here. The only real rewards you receive will be at the five-star connection level, which rewards you with the Rainy Hologram, the Rainbow Lorikeet Hologram, and Patch 68: Rainbow Lorikeet.

Animal Shelter Location & Rewards:

After connecting Rainbow Valley to the Chiral Network, Sam will head north and connect the Animal Shelter. This facility is found near the end of the canyon, before it opens into the black rock flatlands beyond.

Northern Environmental Observatory:

The Northern Environmental Observatory acts as the knot for this first stage of northwestern Australia. It is located on the eastern side of the black rock flatlands in the northwest corner of the map.

The Inventor Location & Rewards:

The Inventor is located on a small island off the western coast near the Mine North of F1. You won't be able to locate any Lost Cargo until mid-game. Eventually, you'll be able to find several pieces of cargo on the beach just north of the island.

F2 South Distribution Center Location & Rewards:

The F2 South Distribution Center is located back to the west a bit from the Northern Environmental Observatory. Sam will make his way here after returning to West Fort Knot.

The Dowser Location & Rewards:

The Dowser is a prepper located along the coast of the northwestern corner of Australia. You'll have to locate the Dowser's friend and return him safely to unlock this location.

The Architect Location & Rewards:

The Architect is an optional prepper that is unlocked during Sub-Order 105. His shelter is located northeast of the Northern Environmental Observatory, up the large hill near the waterfall. It is absolutely worth connecting to at least three stars, as the Construction Speed Boost enhancement makes creating structures much faster.

Heartman's Lab Location & Rewards:

The final stop on this leg of the journey is Heartman's Lab. You'll find this facility along the northern coast, perched atop the hill that overlooks the western edge of the desert area. The DHV Magellan picks up Heartman here, and you'll be introduced to the Hydrologist, who takes over at the lab while Heartman is gone. Along with delivering cargo, locating and digging Hot Springs will also increase Sam's connection level with this location.

All Northeastern Australia Locations & Connection Rewards in Death Stranding 2

Northeastern Australia:

The next leg of Sam's journey starts with one final location in central Australia, before heading east and northeast. Some of the most interesting locations and rewards can be found during this stage of Death Stranding 2's story. The following locations will be included in this section:

• The Pizza Chef
• The Data Scientist
• The Motherhood
• The Mechanic
• East Fort Knot
• The Pioneer

The Pizza Chef Location & Rewards

After picking up Heartman, your first stop will be the famous Pizza Chef. His shelter is located directly south of Heartman's Lab, on the opposite side of the large enemy camp. The Pizza Chef has some of the best interactions in the game, so we highly recommend locating his missing MIsanga and returning it as soon as you possibly can. We found this Lost Cargo within the nearby enemy camp.

The Data Scientist Location & Rewards:

Sam's next stop will be the Data Scientist, an interesting prepper to say the least. This will be the last stop before Sam heads northeast into the desert.

The Motherhood Location & Rewards:

Sam's next visit is The Motherhood, which is located in the center of the lush, green area that sits in the heart of the desert. Sam has a major story moment here, so you'll get a brief respite from deliveries.

The Mechanic Location & Rewards:

The Mechanic is a vehicle-centric prepper located on the eastern edge of the desert area. You'll visit him after your time spent with The Motherhood.

East Fort Knot Location & Rewards:

The final stop this time is in East Fort Knot, the next massive fort structure in the game. This serves as yet another major hub, and the fourth knot Sam has formed. From here, Sam's journey will continue into the mountains, then onto the southern region.

The Pioneer Location & Rewards:

The Pioneer is the only 'optional' prepper Sam can connect to during this leg of the trip. Of course, he can always come back at a later time, but it is first available at this point in the game. The pioneer is located on the northwestern edge of the desert area, just off the road that leads to the Northeastern Mine.

All Central Australia Locations & Connection Rewards in Death Stranding 2

The central region of Australia is mostly taken up by a large mountainous region, where a fair number of preppers reside. There are also a couple of preppers that could technically be discovered earlier, but could not be unlocked until this point in the game. The Central region contains the following locations:

Section 1:

• The Chronobiologist
• The Metagenomicist
• The Fisherman
• The Ghost Hunter
• F5 East Distribution Center – Viktor Frank
• The Adventurer
• Eastern Environmental Observatory – Ridge Frost

Section 2:

• The Phantom Smith
• The Aeronautical Engineer
• South Fort Knot – Pierre Southern
• The Tar Therapist

The Chronobiologist Location & Rewards:

The Chronobiologist will be the first location Sam visits that is located in the mountains. Her shelter is found along the northwestern edge of the mountain range, southeast of the Pizza Chef, south of the Data Scientist, and southwest of The Ghost Hunter. This is the first stop on the next leg of Sam's journey through the mountains.

The Metagenomicist Location & Rewards:

The next stop will take Sam back to level ground to find The Metagenomicist. Her shelter is located at the top of the northeastern edge of the crater on the western side of the mountains. If you head directly south from The Architect, past the Mine North of Tar Lake, you'll run into The Metagenomicist right before you start descending the crater down into the lake.

The Fisherman Location & Rewards:

The Fisherman is a completely optional prepper that is located along the northern shore of the Tar Lake on the western side of the mountains. You'll find his shelter just slightly southwest of the Metagenomacist. Connecting with the Fisherman will eventually lead to a fight with the Lord of the Tar Lake boss fight, which unlocks that respective trophy. You won't be able to connect to The Fisherman until Sub-Order 116 becomes available.

The Ghost Hunter Location & Rewards

The Ghost Hunter is another optional prepper found in this region, though it is highly recommended that you unlock and fully increase your Connection Level with him, as his side-quests will have a major impact on a specific late-game event in Terminal Knot City. The Ghost Hunter is located at the base of the northern edge of the mountains, northeast of the Chronobiologist and southeast of the Data Scientist. The Ghost Hunter's quest will also help you solve the mystery of the Headless Riders.

F5 East Distribution Center Location & Rewards:

The F5 East Distribution Center is the next required facility Sam must connect to complete this stage. The facility is located at the top of the southeast lip of the crater that lines up with the southwest base of the mountains. Sam will encounter Viktor Frank at F5, an old friend from his original journey connecting the UCA.

The Adventurer Location & Rewards:

The Adventurer is one of the toughest preppers to fully connect, as you'll have to locate him multiple times after he finds himself continuously lost. His son will often be your point of contact, but any time the Adventurer is away, you cannot increase the connection level. The shelter is located all the way down at the southern edge of the mountain range.

Eastern Environmental Observatory Location & Rewards:

The Eastern Environmental Observatory is the final facility Sam must connect to form this knot. It is located just below the mountain range's central peak, on the northern side.

The Phantom Smith Location & Rewards:

The Phantom Smith will be the first stop of the second leg of the journey through the mountains. It is located east of the Eastern Environmental Observatory, just down the slope.

The Aeronautical Engineer Location & Rewards:

Taking on Sub-Order 122 will allow you to unlock this leg's optional prepper, The Aeronautical Engineer. This shelter is tough to get to, though it sits not far northwest of the Eastern Environmental Observatory. It is a good idea to set up a series of Zip-Lines from the observatory if you want to quickly complete your connection levels with this location.

South Fort Knot Location & Rewards:

South Fort Knot will be the final required facility in the central mountainous region of Australia. It is located at the base of the southeastern corner of the mountains.

The Tar Therapist Location & Rewards:

The Tar Therapist is the final optional prepper located in central Australia – at least before the end of the game. This shelter is tucked away among the rocks at the base of the eastern side of the mountains. If you head south from East Fort Knot, you'll find The Tar Therapist just north of the Mine North of F6.

All Southeastern Prepper Locations & Connection Rewards in Death Stranding 2

Southeastern Australia:

For the final leg of the journey, there are a total of five locations that Sam will be able to visit. Three of these locations will be the final connections to the Chiral Network, and the final two locations will only be available once the main story is complete.

Final Locations:

• Southern Environmental Observatory – Gregory Southall
• F7 North Distribution Center – Bianca North
• Terminal Knot City – James Ender

Post-Game Only:

• BPAS
• Mr. Impossible

Southern Environmental Observatory Location & Rewards:

The first connection Sam will make for the final leg of his journey will be the Southern Environmental Observatory. This facility is located directly southwest of South Fort Knot.

F7 Northern Distribution Center Location & Rewards:

The next stop on the journey is the F7 Northern Distribution Center, which, despite its name, is located in the south. You'll find this facility directly northwest of the Southern Environmental Observatory.

Terminal Knot City Location & Rewards:

The final connection Sam will make during DS2's main story is Terminal Knot City. There is a full quest that Sam will undertake after connecting F7, so it is impossible to miss this facility at the southern tip of the map. Make sure to complete The Ghost Hunter's side-quests if you want to have access to this facility in the post-game.

BPAS Location & Rewards:

Once you've completed DS2's main story, you can find lost cargo for the BPAS location along the southern coast, particularly near the floating ice that is found close to the second weapons factory. The BPAS shelter itself is located back in the mountains, directly southwest of the F7 Northern Distribution Center.

Mr. Impossible Location & Rewards:

Mr. Impossible is the final location in Death Stranding 2. It is actually a team that sends Sam on incredibly difficult orders. To initiate the connection with Mr. Impossible, you can find lost cargo on the southern shore, around the floating ice south of the second weapons factory. BPAS cargo is found in the same area. The shelter is found on a rock cliff directly west of the weapons factory near the tar lake.
