Death Must Die is a new roguelike indie game sharing similarities with massive hits like Vampire Survivors and Hades. In this game, Time brings you to his realm and asks for your support in defeating Death to make him pay for his theft of time. Throughout this journey, you will have to face hordes of Death’s minions, with boss enemies spawning the longer you survive.

Death Must Die features a host of characters boasting unique skills to help players build many types of builds. This roguelike offers plenty of stats for boosting each build type. Whether you are using a caster build or a typical knight build, there are particular stats available for all builds in Death Must Die. Among all builds, summon builds are among the easiest to make and become quite strong when paired with the right blessings, equipment, and characters.

How to Make a Summon Build in Death Must Die

Best Stats to Look For

Death Must Die - Summon Stats

When creating a summon build in Death Must Die, your first priority should be to use equipment with summon-related stats. Look for stats like Summon Damage, Additional Summons, Summon Attack Speed, and so on. These stats will buff your summons and increase their numbers on the field. Alongside summon stats, aim for some Rerolls and Alterations, as we need to snipe specific blessings from the right gods.

You will also need stats to boost appearance rates for Master and Legendary blessings. Only Master blessings have a chance to appear as Legendary blessings. For this reason, it is recommended to have around 15-20% more Master Offers stat and at least 40% more Legendary Offers stat.

Here is a list of stats you should go for in a summon build:

  • Summon Damage
  • Summon Duration
  • Summon Count
  • Summon Attack Speed
  • Summon Duration
  • Alterations
  • Rerolls
  • More Master Offers
  • More Legendary Offers

Best Character and Talent for Summon Build

Death Must Die - Merris talents

Among all the characters available in Death Must Die, Sorceress Merris has the best talents for building a summon build. Almost all talents in her first column buff summons’ abilities, with the last talent summoning a Pet Dragon that inflicts Burning on targets. For an endgame build, you will want to unlock all of Merris’ blessings in the first column.

Go to the Constellarium to unlock new talents for Merris. Here are the talents you should unlock for Merris for a summon-focused build:

  • Fellowship - Increases Summon damage
  • Mystical Prescience - Grants free Alterations
  • Affection - More Summon slots
  • Concentration - Increases the amount of XP gained
  • Green Tea - Increases movement speed for you and summons
  • Fire Pals - Summon Fire elementals to fight alongside you
  • Attunement - Lowers cooldown (helpful for defensive casts)
  • Channel - Increases damage dealt by summons
  • Fireball - Turns your cast into a giant powerful fireball after not attacking for 1-2 seconds
  • Pet Dragon - Summons a Red Dragon

Make sure to level up these talents to their max possible level to create the best Merris summoner build in Death Must Die. Instead of Merris, you can also go with Skadi for a summon build, but her talents aren’t much oriented for summons. You can use her wolf summon and related talents to get a couple of wolves to fight alongside.

Best Gods and Blessings for Summon Build

With equipment and talents out of the way, you need to know about which Gods you should be looking for and which of their blessings to pick. For a summon build, you need to look for blessings with summons. Mort, Summer, and Winter are three of the best gods for summon builds in Death Must Die.

The polar-opposite sisters, Summer and Winter, both can offer legendary Dragon summon and elemental summons (Fire Elementals and Frost Wolves) for support. Mort, the daughter of Death, also boasts two summon skills - Ravens of Pestilence, which summons a group of Cursed-inflicting ravens, and Necromancy, which summons skeletons after killing minions of Death.

Mort can also offer a passive blessing called Influence to raise the damage dealt by your summons. She can also give you the legendary blessing Vampirism, one of the best survival blessings in Death Must Die. You should also take advantage of Winter’s blessings with chilled effects. Her incredible crowd control can help control waves of enemies a lot easier than it normally is.

Feel free to use as many Alterations and Rerolls as needed to get the right blessings to make the most out of your summon build. However, luck may not always be on your side. If you end up getting blessings from Krom, his Blood Swords summons can be impressive at higher levels. These swords can shred through boss enemies when they are locked in.
