Avengers: Doomsday is an upcoming movie from Marvel Studios as part of Phase Six. In March, the studio announced the cast of the anticipated tentpole in a multi-hour livestream and among those returning are Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Tenoch Huerta (Namor), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), and Letitia Wright (Black Panther) to name a few. To fans' surprise, several of Fox's original X-Men cast members are also part of the ensemble, including Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) and James Marsden (Cyclops). Another X-Men OG, whose name was missing, was asked if he would join the film and their response was amusing.

An X-Men star who will reprise his role in Avengers: Doomsday is comparing his mutant character to MLK Jr.
Hugh Jackman is best known for playing Wolverine, a character he portrayed for over two decades. He delivered one of the most iconic and enduring performances in comic book movie history by playing the character in nine films. He made his debut in X-Men (2000) and reprised the role in X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), and X-Men: Apocalypse (2014). He also starred in three solo movies — X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), The Wolverine (2013), and Logan (2017). In 2015, Jackman announced that Logan would be the last time he would play the superhero role. However, he had a change of heart and officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) by reprising his superhero role with adamantium claws in Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. When asked if Wolverine would join Doomsday when he appeared on The View, Jackman shared a cheeky response:
I really can't say much. Except, when you say 'appear,' more like dominate and destroy every other char– I'm kidding. And it becomes a one-man show!
When pressed further for more information on whether he would be part of the anticipated MCU tentpole, he doubled down on his response, saying he had "nothing to add" but if there were anything to say, he would "find a really cool way to not say it." It might sound like he was teasing fans, but Jackman insisted that there was really nothing to say. Ryan Reynolds, who convinced Jackman to don his Wolverine costume once more, isn't also among the names announced for Doomsday. When asked if he wanted Deadpool to join the Avengers or X-Men, he said it would be a "wish fulfillment" for the Merc with a Mouth and should not be given to him. Otherwise, it would be his "end."
When Marvel Studios announced the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, it raised eyebrows because many fan favorites were missing, including Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Stranger) and the original Avengers Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Mark Ruffalo (Hawk). Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that while they announced many, not all names were revealed. So, there is a chance that Jackman's Wolverine will also appear in the movie. That will be a great move because it's nostalgic to see Wolverine reunite with the other X-Men OGs who are part of the movie. Also, it's a missed opportunity not to feature Wolverine with the Avengers when the other mutants will be on the battlefield with them. Jackman's presence in Avengers: Doomsday, along with the other X-Men OGs, will be pure fan service.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026.
