Fans are in for a good time when they watch Deadpool & Wolverine, and whilst it’s good fun with hilarity and action, some moments will have fans raising an eyebrow in confusion. Deadpool & Wolverine has a few things that didn’t make sense, or need further explanation upon a first watch.

Part of the blame for things not making much sense in Deadpool & Wolverine comes from the 20th Century Fox timeline of their X-Men movies, but there are still some moments where less-die-hard fans might not understand certain threads, but it will by no means deter from the thrill-ride of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Spoilers ahead from Deadpool & Wolverine!

5 Wolverine’s Absence From Deadpool’s Timeline

Does Deadpool's Timeline Have Two Wolverines?

deadpool with dogpool and wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine acts as a great jumping-off point for audience members who haven’t been keeping tabs on the MCU’s movies and shows, especially with the inclusion of the TVA. Yet, those who know of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine might be confused when it comes to his death in Logan (2017). Deadpool’s universe is going to die because Wolverine is dead, but Wolverine doesn’t die until 2029.

Since Deadpool & Wolverine is set around 2024, and Wolverine is definitely in this universe because of other X-Men characters, why couldn’t Wolverine have just stopped him from dying instead of digging up his Adamantium skeleton? The Fox timeline has never been a simple one to follow.

4 Deadpool’s Avengers Dilemma

Deadpool Wants To Be Important, But At What Cost?

the group assembled

Deadpool’s arch in Deadpool & Wolverine is one of his best and most personal. Despite being the chatty Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool wants to feel important, and seem like he matters past an abundance of jokes and bloody murders. What better superhero team to be involved with than the iconic Avengers of the Sacred Timeline?

Hugh Jackman is the iconic one-and-only Wolverine, and Deadpool & Wolverine features an abundance of the adamantium-infused X-Man.

Deadpool’s world is shattered when he is rejected by the Avengers, but how did he even know about the team in the first place, and how does he know about multiverse travel to find the Sacred Timeline that audiences know and love? Whilst Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking charm might be the reason, it still doesn’t make much sense for what Deadpool’s plan would have been if he became an Avenger. Would he leave his universe behind?

3 The Importance Of Cassandra Nova

It's Not Made Clear Why Cassandra Nova Was Pruned And Became The Void's Ruler

Cassandra Nova might be a shocking reveal to some audience members, as she was the twin sister of Charles Xavier. Yet, for some reason, Cassandra Nova was pruned and banished by the TVA to forever remain in the Void. It’s understandable why she didn’t escape, as she could use the Void as a paradise to relish in her powers and command armies of loyal followers and infinite goodies from whatever the TVA banished to the Void after her arrival.

Yet, there’s a confusing aspect to her character, because what made her so important to be pruned in the first place by the TVA, and why did they strike a deal with her in the Void? The TVA already has Alioth and He Who Remains involved with the Void, so what purpose does Cassandra Nova serve?

2 Why Would the Deadpool Corps Agree to Destroy the Multiverse?

A Hundred Deadpools Are Happy To End The Multiverse Saga

When Cassandra Nova was betrayed by the TVA, she decided to use the Time Ripper to destroy the multiverse. To help her, she enlisted the aid of the Deadpool Corps, a multiverse of pruned Deadpools that would stop anyone who tried to deter her ambition to destroy reality. However, why would the Deadpool Corps agree to this? Wouldn’t they rather leave the Void and go home?

MCU: Phase Five, Ranked (So Far)

Despite the MCU's momentum winding down, Phase Five still has a few tricks up its sleeve to impress those who can't get enough of Marvel's heroes.

The Deadpool Corps aren’t fleshed out that much, so it’s hard to discern a reason other than the fact that the TVA finds Deadpools extremely annoying so they prune them any chance they get. The Deadpool Corps seems pretty good at working towards a common goal, but it’s a tad strange that every single one of them was happy to destroy the multiverse.

1 Did The Resistance Get A Happily Ever After In The Right Universe?

It's Not Made Clear If Everyone Returns To Their Own Universes

Deadpool and Wolverine Standing Together

A big chunk of Deadpool & Wolverine involved the past characters of the weird, risky, and fun 20th Century Fox universe. As such, the inclusion of Blade, Elektra, X-23, and even Channing Tatum as Gambit helps to serve the plot. The ending of Deadpool & Wolverine has Deadpool ask the TVA to return these characters to their universes, but since they were pruned, doesn’t that mean their universes are gone anyway?

Or do these characters remain in Deadpool’s universe, since the ending has Dafne Keen’s X-23 at the table with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine? So does this mean that other Mutants like Gambit are also in this universe now? Or has he been placed back into a world that audiences never knew? Even if Elektra returns to her universe, Daredevil is dead, and the Fantastic Four also seem to be dead in theirs.
