Summary

  • The new Masters of the Universe movie aims for a more serious tone than its predecessor.
  • Morena Baccarin joins the star-studded cast as Sorcereress in the upcoming film.
  • Fisto, played by Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, may have a significant role in the film's plot.

The upcoming Masters of the Universe movie looks like it almost has its full cast filled out. The movie added two more actors this week, including one who has recently put in a ton of work in the MCU.

Masters of the Universe quickly became one of the most popular media franchises of the 1980s with a host of action-figure toys to match its success. Not only did the cartoon series that ran from 1983-1985 spawn a line of comic books and video games, but a movie was made too in 1987, which starred The Expendables' Dolph Lundgren as the muscled He-Man and Frank Langella in some very heavy makeup and prosthetics as Skeletor. However, that movie never really hit the right tone and seemed to be goofier than more serious. However, it’s expected that while this new movie will try and follow along with the original cartoon, it also will take a more serious tone. And it will have some serious stars taking on the roles of some of the most well-known characters from this franchise.

Masters Of The Universe Tone Choice Is The Correct One

The Masters of the Universe movie seems to be heading towards a more serious tone and that's definitely a good thing for the future of the franchise.

Morena Baccarin Joins Masters Of The Universe Cast

According to Deadline, that star-studded cast added two more names, including Morena Baccarin, who most recently did a stint with the MCU in the Deadpool trilogy. Baccarin has been signed to work in The Masters of the Universe as the Sorcereress, occupant of Castle Greyskull and the woman who gave Prince Adam the sword that transforms him into He-Man. She’s joined as a new member of the cast by Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson who will play Fisto.

Fisto, as the name alludes to, is a man who has a large metal fist for one of his hands. He’s able to pack quite a wallop when going up against Skeletor and his forces. There is an interesting twists when it comes ot this particular character, as the origin of Fisto originally saw him aligning himself with the forces of evil before he was convinced to switch sides by He-Man and his other allies. It’s possible that storyline could be in play, especially if this first movie is more of an origin story type flick that sets up additional installments in the series based on its success.

Baccarin and Jóhannesson joins a cast that is getting fuller every day including Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops. It’s not known just how many of the iconic Masters of the Universe characters will appear in the upcoming film, but it certainly seems as though the cast could be near filled when it comes to the major parts.

One thing that hasn’t been confirmed yet is just what the plot for the Masters of the Universe movie will be. However there are rumors that the film will center around 10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword.. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Adam is transported back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.

It's Time For A Masters Of The Universe Mortal Kombat-Like Video Game

The story and characters in Masters of the Universe lends itself pretty easily to a video game similar to Mortal Kombat.
