Scooper Daniel Richtman broke the news of Toad's alleged role in Deadpool 3. As mentioned, casting details were not provided, so it's unclear if the character will be played by Park, who portrayed Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Another version of Toad was played by Evan Jonigkeit in X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, Marvel Studios may decide to recast the role for Deadpool 3.

Toad is a prominent character from the Mutant Brotherhood in the X-Men comics but was not featured much in the film franchise, as he only made appearances in X-Men and X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, he was featured in one of the more infamous scenes in the film franchise's history. For context, while squaring off with Storm during the film's climactic fight, Storm gains the upper hand by using her powers to control the weather to all but knock him out of the battle area. Toad's last line of defense was using his prolonged tongue to stick to a poled fence to keep him on the battleground. Storm then said verbatim, "Do you know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning?" Before answering her own question with, "The same thing that happens to everything else," before striking Toad with lightning, thus completing one of the cringe-worthy lines of dialogue ever spoken in superhero movie history.

That might be why Toad may return for Deadpool 3 after all these years. Since the franchise's first installment in 2016, Deadpool has mocked bad superhero movies, like Reynolds being in the DC bomb Green Lantern in 2011 and how horribly executed Deadpool was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Considering Hugh Jackman is returning to play Wolverine one more time, anything is possible, from the return of X-23 to the most random MCU cameos ever. Deadpool 3 was already going after it when they brought Jennifer Garner's Elektra back, so why stop there?

Toad is an interesting choice, given that fans haven't considered him much in the last few decades. Deadpool 3 will likely joke about that infamous scene, but Toad's role hints that the movie will probably have other cameos along the way whose time in their respective superhero movies will likely get mocked. They also might be mocking the MCU's penchant for bringing back previous characters for no purpose besides fan service.

Deadpool 3 will premiere in theaters on May 3, 2024
