Summary
- Gamers want Manhunt, Prototype, Infamous, and The Darkness to make comebacks.
- No plans for new games, remasters, or remakes have been announced.
- But there's always a chance they could be revived at some point down the line.
Gamers have picked Manhunt, Prototype, Infamous, and The Darkness as four single-player gaming franchises that they want to see make a comeback. As the years go by, some gaming franchises inevitably fall by the wayside, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a group of dedicated fans that would love to see them make a comeback.
Sometimes long dormant franchises are brought back from the dead through remasters or remakes. Other times, publishers shock the world with the reveal of an unexpected sequel, like the announcement of Okami 2 at The Game Awards 2024. There's always a chance dormant franchises will one day make a comeback, and that is the hope that gamers have for the aforementioned four single-player franchises in particular.
More PlayStation Franchises Could Work Wonders With a Bold InFamous Approach
For the future of PlayStation, taking note of an underrated InFamous DLC could be the key to making exclusive titles stand out.
A Reddit post by user Crylose named Manhunt, Prototype, Infamous, and The Darkness as four single-player franchises they want to see make a comeback. The post described the franchises as "dead" and "long forgotten," but if the response to it is any indication, these games certainly have not been forgotten. The post generated over 18,000 upvotes, nearly 2,000 comments, and two awards, with many agreeing that the listed series need to return.
Gamers Pick Single-Player Franchises That Should Make a Comeback
While there is clearly some fan demand for these particular single-player franchises to make a comeback, nothing has been announced at the time of this writing. Manhunt, a stealth horror series from Rockstar Games, has been on ice since 2007's Manhunt 2, a new Prototype game hasn't been released since 2012's Prototype 2, the last Infamous game came out in 2014, and there hasn't been a new Darkness game since 2012. There could be licensing issues preventing The Darkness 3 from happening, so it seems like the least likely to get a sequel out of the four franchises listed.
The other three franchises seem more realistic. The Prototype IP should now be under the Xbox umbrella, and so there's always a chance the company could give it to one of its many studios. A new Manhunt game could be a smaller scale project for Rockstar Games to help fill the gap between GTA 6 and whatever its next project is, though fans shouldn't hold their breath for that to happen. As for Infamous, Sony has already shown a willingness to let other studios tackle Sucker Punch franchises, so that could happen again. Alternatively, Sucker Punch could eventually decide to return to the Infamous universe itself as its next project after 2025's Ghost of Yotei. As it stands, no new entries in any of the highlighted franchises have been announced as of December 2024.
