Summary
- Dead Island 2 brought back Sam B, hinting at a possible return of original characters, adding depth to the franchise.
- Xian Mei, Logan Carter, and Purna Jackson making a comeback in future Dead Island games would be a nostalgic experience.
- While Dead Island 2 was a fun addition, bringing back past characters can strengthen the series and satisfy long-time fans.
After a long and arduous development cycle, Dead Island 2 was finally released last year, offering an incredibly fun hack-and-slash zombie tale. Dead Island 2 was an exciting new addition to the zombie genre, and the return of one of the first game's characters was exciting.
Sam B was one of the four playable heroes from the first Dead Island game, and it was exciting to see that he managed to stay alive after all these years. A one-hit wonder rapper, Sam B was a fascinating Dead Island character, and although his return in Dead Island 2 was a welcome surprise, it also raises questions about the whereabouts of other characters from the first game.
Best Mods For Dead Island: Riptide
Dead Island: Riptide is certainly showing its age by this point. Luckily, the following mods can help freshen up the experience.
Dead Island Should Consider Bringing Back Past Characters
Dead Island 2 was a new fun, blood-soaked chapter in the franchise, and featuring Sam B shows that there is room for past characters to return in future games. The characters in Dead Island 2 were interesting in their own right, but bringing the four original heroes back together again or being featured as survivors in upcoming games would be really fun to see.
Dead Island's Future Deserves a Blast from the Past
Therefore, the four original characters featured in Dead Island should make their way back into the storyline if the franchise wants to feel like a connected series. These characters players get to choose from in the first Dead Island all have their own unique backstories and personalities that deserve to be revisited:
- Sam B
- Xian Mei
- Logan Carter
- Purna Jackson
Xian Mei
Bladed weapons expert Xian Mei has a fascinating background. Born in China and eventually becoming part of the Hong Kong Police force, she is sent by her superiors to work at the Royal Palms Resort on Banoi as a spy. However, her skills at fighting, due to her dad teaching her martial arts, make her a capable fighter once the outbreak begins on the island. If future Dead Island games feature more classic characters, Xian Mei would be one of the best to feature after Sam B.
Logan Carter
An ex-football star with a troubled past, Logan Carter was the jack-of-all-trades character players could choose. After destroying his career in a deadly street race, Logan made his way to Banoi in order to run away from his demons. However, he was only introduced to even more horrifying demons when the outbreak began on the island. A fun Easter egg in Dead Island 2 reveals a post from a gossip news site that talks about Logan being spotted in Montana, proving he's at least alive.
Purna Jackson
Purna found her way to the island of Banoi after losing her police job in Australia for shooting a child molester with powerful connections. After leaving the police force, she became a bodyguard for the rich and famous. Her colorful background and understandably bitter personality made her a compelling character, and it would be interesting to see where she is now. If Dead Island continues to bring in characters from previous games, it would be fascinating to see how the story handles Purna's storyline.
Although Dead Island 2 was a great new addition to the series, it would be disappointing if past characters were never brought back to the franchise. It took a long time for Dead Island 2 to finally get here, and not knowing the fates of such great characters is frustrating. Hopefully, Sam B's appearance is just the beginning when it comes to revisiting the original Dead Island characters.
