There isn't long to wait now until Dambuster's hotly anticipated Dead Island 2 releases, but in the meantime, fans can look forward to some more gameplay footage, which is scheduled to premiere on March 2. Despite the rather lackluster reception of the first game, which came out in 2011, many are excited about this zombie horror game sequel. This could be due to a revival of the zombie genre, the fact that the game's been in development for years, or maybe because this entry is going for more reverence and humor. It could also be a combination of all three.
Ever since Dead Island 2 revealed two new trailers at Gamescom 2022, fans have been keen to see what Dambuster and Deep Silver have to offer this time round. With the cinematic teasers being memorable for their comedic take on the zombie trope, the sequel could be a breath of fresh air when it comes to action RPG titles. With the developer also revealing the "FLESH System," gamers were given a chance to see the gruesome mechanics that will allow for procedural dismemberment of the undead.
Before anyone can get their hands on Dead Island 2 though, there's still the matter of the upcoming gameplay trailer. As spotted by Gaming Bolt, the game's YouTube channel will be premiering the footage on March 2. Referred to as an "extended trailer," the upcoming clip will follow Dani, one of the sequel's four playable characters, as she moves through the streets of Beverly Hills. The trailer will be a chance for fans to see new weapons and some powerful skills, such as the "ground pounds." The Dead Island 2 YouTube video, which is currently age restricted, will air at 7 AM PST.
While Dead Island 2's release date changed, it actually changed for the better. Although a lot of games end up delaying their releases, DI2 will actually be coming out a little sooner, launching on April 21 instead of April 28. This could be down to EA delaying the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to April 28, which would only increase competition. In any case, it's good news for those who have been anticipating the Dead Island follow-up.
Although Dead Island 2 has been noted for its humorous trailer, it's markedly different to the one its predecessor released. The first game's reveal was awash with tragedy and emotion, setting a much different tone when compared to the sequel, and many see the 2011 entry as having one of the best horror game trailers of all time.
Dead Island 2 launches April 21 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
