The Dead by Daylight community has recently banded together to highlight a particularly goofy running animation bestowed upon Albert Wesker, aka The Mastermind, in the asymmetrical horror game. However, Resident Evil fans were quick to point out the detail’s nod to the zombie franchise. Wesker was introduced as a Killer in Dead by Daylight during Chapter 25: Resident Evil: Project W, a DLC released back in August 2022.

Dead by Daylight recently hosted a crossover with Resident Evil, welcoming iconic characters from the Capcom franchise into the special, limited-time gameplay, alongside a new map addition. The event ran between February 10 and February 25, allowing players to control the Killers in 2v8 matches, such as Nemesis and The Mastermind, but fans noticed something off about the latter character that caused laughter to erupt.

Dead by Daylight Easter Egg May Confirm Recent Chapter 35 Killer Leaks

Dead by Daylight players may have uncovered the Chapter 35 killer through an Easter egg audio file hidden in the horror game.

Posted on Reddit by dadousPL, a four-second clip was shared on the Dead by Daylight subreddit, showcasing Wesker’s peculiar run through a hallway. The Killer is shown leaning forward while sprinting, but the run is heavy and appears slowed down, which quickly became the butt of players’ jokes. Albert Wesker’s strategies are tricky to learn in Dead by Daylight, but the villain’s dream-like run took his threat level down a notch. One Redditor noted Wesker’s animation matched how they ran while being chased in their dreams, and another fan shared the terrifying thought of The Mastermind performing a Naruto run instead.

Dead by Daylight Players Note Wesker's Funny Run Is a Resident Evil Nod

The main takeaway from the comments section was users’ knowledge of Wesker’s goofy run being an homage to Resident Evil 5. One Redditor stated the strange animation was a slight homage to Wesker’s sprint in the fifth entry, even though he ran much faster in Capcom’s game. Another comment highlighting the animation specifically references Wesker’s dash ability in Resident Evil 5’s Mercenaries mode, and it was also believed DbD had to nerf Wesker because his abilities were too overpowering within his source material. Resident Evil 5 is one of the best horror games with revolutionary co-op mechanics, but DbD players also have the game to thank for Wesker’s killer running animation.

Dr. Albert Wesker is a notorious virologist and one of Project W’s test subjects, known for his shady dealings with affiliates of the bio-weapons black market. Wesker appears in several Resident Evil games, including Resident Evil 0, Revelations 2, and The Umbrella Chronicles in addition to Resident Evil 5. Known as The Mastermind in DbD, Wesker harbors the Power of Uroboros and boasts the personal Perks, Superior Anatomy, Awakened Awareness, and Terminus.
