Dead by Daylight has finally crossed over with Five Nights at Freddy's with an all-new Chapter that adds Springtrap to the game's roster of horror icons. The FNAF Chapter of Dead by Daylight also brings Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria into the Fog as a new map, and Springtrap's new killer power is a perfect fit for it.
Springtrap is one of the most highly-anticipated killers in the history of Dead by Daylight, so it's a relief to hear that Behaviour Interactive has taken great care to ensure that his gameplay mechanics fit into the world of Dead by Daylight without diluting the things that make Five Nights at Freddy's so beloved. Springtrap is one of the coolest killers that Dead by Daylight has seen so far, and survivors will have to watch out for some unique mechanics when facing The Animatronic.
Why a Star Wars Crossover for Dead By Daylight Would Make Perfect Sense
Star Wars and Dead by Daylight may have nothing in common on the surface, but the latter's history leaves room for crossover potential.
Dead by Daylight Springtrap Release Date
The Five Nights at Freddy's Chapter for Dead by Daylight will be released on June 17, 2025 for all platforms. The Chapter includes Springtrap, the Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria map, and other FNAF content.
While the official release is still a few weeks away, the FNAF update is currently live on the Dead by Daylight PTB. PC players can download the PTB and try out Springtrap and Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria right now, but console players will have to wait until the Chapter's full launch on June 17.
Springtrap Killer Power
Springtrap, called "The Animatronic" in-game, has a special power called Fazbear's Fright that adds some FNAF flair to Dead by Daylight matches. For his primary attack, Springtrap is armed with a fire axe that he can throw at survivors. If a survivor is hit, the axe becomes embedded in them and they must remove it before they can be healed.
Springtrap's main gimmick is a map feature called Security System. When playing as Springtrap, seven security doors will spawn at random throughout the map. Both Springtrap and the survivors can use these doors. Each door has a camera attached to it, and survivors can interact with the doors to cycle through the camera perspectives (like The Singularity's cameras)of all seven doors in the match. Survivors can also instantly teleport to any of the doors as long as they're looking through the associated cameras. If Springtrap is spotted on a camera, his aura will be revealed to all survivors for a brief period.
Springtrap can also use these security doors to travel across the map. If Springtrap moves to a door in use by a survivor, a jumpscare animation will play and the survivor will be grabbed. The doors and cameras have a limited amount of battery for survivors just like in the FNAF games, but Springtrap can use the doors even if they're out of energy. Basically, Springtrap's power turns the camera management of Five Nights at Freddy's into a teleporting game of cat and mouse between the killer and survivors.
Springtrap Perks
The Animatronic comes with three unique perks in Dead by Daylight. As always, prestiging Springtrap will make these perks available for other killers.
- Help Wanted: When the compromised generator is completed, your successful basic attack cooldowns are 25/25/25% faster for 40/50/60 seconds.
- Phantom Fear: When a Survivor within your Terror Radius looks at you, they scream and you see their aura for 2/2/2 seconds. This perk has a 80/70/60 second cooldown.
- Haywire: Exit gates switches with at least 50% progress regress at a rate of 40/45/50% of gate opening speed. While they are regressing, Survivors see the exit gate lights flicker randomly.
Springtrap is easily one of the most unique killers that Dead by Daylight has seen, and playing against The Animatronic as a survivor is a huge chance of pace compared to other killers that the community has already gotten used to. There's a lot to enjoy in Dead by Daylight's FNAF Chapter, and survivors should bring their best builds if they want to survive their trip to Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria.
