Dead by Daylight broke its player count record after the Five Nights at Freddy's update. Behaviour Interactive released Dead by Daylight in 2016 and has been supporting the game with regular updates since then. One of the highlights of these updates is the crossovers with various IPs.
One of Dead by Daylight's most notable collaborations was with Stranger Things, adding Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington as Survivors, and the Demogorgon as one of the Killers. Another crossover that caught fans' attention added content from Silent Hill, bringing together two iconic horror titles by introducing Cheryl Mason and Pyramid Head, respectively, as the new Survivor and Killer. It's no secret that Dead by Daylight has an impressive list of collaborations, but it was one of the most recent ones that earned the game a new milestone.
Dead by Daylight Reveals the Game's Best Killers
Behaviour Interactive reveals Dead by Daylight’s deadliest killers, pick rates, and escape rates based on new stats from early 2025.
Dead by Daylight has set a new record for all-time player count: 106,029. According to SteamDB, the number was registered on Tuesday, June 17, after the release of the Dead by Daylight crossover with Five Nights at Freddy's. As part of this update, the developers added Springtrap, the macabre animatronic who acts as the antagonist in FNAF 3, as the newest Killer. The collaboration also features cosmetic items including Springtrap skins, two banners, and four badges, as well as three new achievements to unlock.
Dead by Daylight Makes History by Crossing Over with Five Nights at Freddy's
In addition to this being the highest player count in Dead by Daylight history, it was also the highest number the game has achieved in 2025 so far. SteamDB also lists that the game's previous record was set in June 2021, when Dead by Daylight crossed over with Resident Evil and registered 105,093 concurrent players. At that time, Behaviour Interactive added Leon and Jill Valentine as Survivors and Nemesis-T Type as a Killer. The second part of the collaboration was released in August 2022, featuring Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers as Survivors and Albert Wesker as a Killer.
The video game industry releases many new games every year, but it's positive to see an older title still around. Dead by Daylight has stood the test of time thanks to the constant support given to developers, showing their commitment to making improvements and adding new content to keep the community engaged. And if a recent leak is any indication, players will have even more to look forward to from the game in the coming months with the potential addition of more Resident Evil content in Dead by Daylight.
