Dead by Daylight's roster is now a veritable who's who of horror icons, being home to the likes of Alien's Xenomorph, Child's Play's Chucky, Texas Chain Saw Massacre's Leatherface, and many more. And they all have Halloween's Michael Myers to thank for paving the way. The very first pop-culture collaboration in the game, Dead by Daylight's Halloween Chapter released all the way back in October 2016, adding Laurie Strode as a Survivor, Haddonfield as a playable map, and of course, the infamous Michael Myers as a Killer.
While Dead by Daylight has been Myers' virtual home for the best part of a decade, the icon is about to star in another game. Announced a week ago, developer IllFonic is back with another asymmetrical multiplayer horror game based on a beloved IP, and this time Halloween is getting the spotlight. With the upcoming IllFonic title having a similar gameplay premise to Dead by Daylight, some fans might be wondering if Michael Myers will meet the same fate as Hellraiser's Pinhead.
Will Dead by Daylight Remove Halloween's Michael Myers?
Dead by Daylight Does Have a Short History of Removing Characters
Back in November 2021, Dead by Daylight announced that it was removing its Stranger Things DLC chapter from all storefronts. The Demogorgon, Steve, and Nancy were all taken out of the game, and Dead by Daylight's Hawkins laboratory map was removed from rotation. At the time, it was made clear that these Stranger Things elements were being removed from Dead by Daylight due to Behavior's licensing agreement with Netflix coming to an end. In November 2023, this licensing agreement was seemingly renewed, with all Stranger Things content being added back into the game and its storefronts.
More recently, Dead by Daylight removed all of its Hellraiser-themed content. Back in April, The Cenobite became unavailable to purchase. Officially, Behavior gave this explanation: "As with all Live-Service Games, frequent updates and additions are to be expected." It seems likely that Behavior's licensing agreement with Hellraiser's owners came to an end, though this hasn't been officially confirmed.
Some fans suspect that the newly announced Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival may be a reason behind The Cenobite's removal from Dead by Daylight. Though, again, there's been no official word regarding this from Behavior, Saber Interactive, or any other party potentially involved.
The Cenobite is still playable in Dead by Daylight for those who purchased the Hellraiser DLC pack before its removal in April, just as Stranger Things' DLC was still playable to those who purchased it before its removal back in 2021.
There Are No Current Plans to Remove Michael Myers from Dead by Daylight
With IllFonic's asymmetrical multiplayer Halloween game on the horizon, some Dead by Daylight fans are worried that history might repeat itself. There's been no official word from Behavior regarding Michael Myers' future in Dead by Daylight, which isn't necessarily a confirmation that he's not going anywhere, but it does mean that he isn't leaving the roster just yet.
It's also very unlikely that Michael Myers would leave Dead by Daylight just because a new asymmetrical horror game starring him is on the way. Instead, it's much more likely that he would leave Dead by Daylight when/if Behavior's licensing agreement with Halloween's owners expires, the details of which haven't been publicly stated.
And even if Dead by Daylight's Halloween Chapter is delisted in the future, those who have bought the pack already will probably still be able to play as the iconic slasher villain, just as they're able to keep playing as Pinhead if they purchased that DLC before it was delisted. Behavior would also likely give fans plenty of warning if Michael Myers was being removed from the game, just as it has before.
