Blood Generators created by Dead by Daylight's Blood Moon event differ greatly from regular generators, and players should be aware of their unique qualities. Blood Generators will not be a permanent addition to Dead by Daylight, only sticking around for the duration of the current event. However, their existence creates a significant shift in the metagame of the mode. There are a lot of things that players need to know when dealing with blood generators, both as a Killer and a Survivor. However, once they fully understand them, Blood Moon mode should be a much easier task to handle.
2025's Blood Moon event in Dead by Daylight took a much different approach from last year's event of the same name. This time around, four out of seven generators in every match are replaced with blood generators. Rather than repairing them like usual generators, survivors instead have to fill them with blood from blood pumps. Since Survivors still need to fix five generators to power the exit gates, that means that they will need to finish at least two blood generators in order to escape in Blood Moon mode. Learning the differences between blood generators and regular generators is vital for Blood Moon mode.
Dead by Daylight's Blood Moon Game Mode Shows Where the Game Has Potential to Grow
Dead by Daylight's Blood Moon mode putting a spin on a key gameplay mechanic is a good example of how the game could evolve going forward.
Dead by Daylight's Blood Generators Require a Different Approach Than Their Counterparts
Dead by Daylight's Blood Generators Finish Quickly, But Require Blood Cans First
The first thing that Dead by Daylight Survivors should appreciate about blood generators is how quickly they can be completed. When being filled, blood generators will gain progress far quicker than a normal generator would be repaired. In fact, several survivors working together can finish a blood generator in seconds. However, Survivors will need a blood can in order to work on a blood generator at all. Thankfully, blood pumps will spawn somewhat close to blood generators, and even show the aura of the closest one while filling a can, so Survivors can use blood generators to finish trials startlingly quickly.
The Trails of Blood Cans Can Easily be Tracked by Killers
While Killers will have to be warier than ever of generators finishing quickly in Dead by Daylight, there are a couple of factors in their favor. First, Survivors need to fill a blood can, then bring it to the blood generator before filling it. That provides an extra opportunity to intercept them. In addition, blood cans leave a trail of blood, making Survivors carrying them easier to track. Killers are at a definite disadvantage if a Survivor can work on a blood generator far away from them, but they still have a fighting chance if they know how to patrol gens effectively.
Blood Generators Don't Work With Dead by Daylight's Generator Perks
Blood Generators have another quirk that affects both sides of the game. Many of the best perks in Dead by Daylight have to do with gens, be it tracking them, regressing them, or repairing them faster. However, Blood Generators are unaffected by perks associated with generators. Examples include:
- Deja Vu will not reveal blood generators
- Bitter Murmur will not reveal Survivor auras after a blood generator finishes
- Potential Energy cannot store progress from blood generators
- Merciless Storm will not activate on blood generators close to completion
This quirk can affect several builds, so players should keep this in mind before their Blood Moon matches.
Knowing the unique traits of blood generators is vital for success in Blood Moon matches. The possibility of future special modes in Dead by Daylight mean that this could be far from the last time players will have to learn a new mechanic in such a fashion. Between blood generators' speed, the requirement for blood cans, and their incompatibility with perks, they guarantee that players will need to change their tactics. For players engaging with Dead by Daylight's Blood Moon event, knowing their quirks is the best strategy.
