Summary

  • DC Studios is set to have a big year in 2025 with James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU operating in full swing.
  • Harley Quinn Season 5 kicks off DC Studios' 2025 lineup on January 16.
  • The Superman movie, directed by James Gunn, is set to soar into theaters on July 11, 2025.

DC Studios has had a relatively quiet year in 2024 as the transition from the old DCEU to the new James Gunn/Peter Safran era begins. That era is set to well and truly begin in 2025 with multiple major releases.

In 2024, DC did not have much on its film slate, but parent company Warner Bros. Did release the much-anticipated Todd Phillips sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. Unfortunately, the film did not live up to the hype, leaving the movie slate relatively uneventful for DC this year. On the TV side, things were brighter as Superman & Lois brought the CW’s Arrowverse to an end in climactic fashion, and the new DC Studios slate officially began with the December release of Creature Commandos.

What Is Happening in The DC Studios Universe in 2025?

Harley Quinn Season 5 Will Be The First DC Release of The Year

The first cab off the ranks for DC Studios in 2025 is the adult animated series Harley Quinn. The series stars Kaley Cuoco as the voice of Harley Quinn, who is intent on building her own name as a criminal after she splits from the Joker. Over the series’ four seasons, Harley has begun a relationship with Poison Ivy and built a crew of her own, including Clayface and King Shark. Season 5 of Harley Quinn will take the duo out of Gotham and to the bright lights of Metropolis and is set to release on Max on January 16.

Superman Will Fly Into Cinemas In Summer 2025

What is easily DC Studios’ most anticipated release is happening in 2025 with a new Superman movie. The film, directed by James Gunn, stars David Coronswet as the Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The film is the beginning of the new DC Studios live-action era and audiences are eager to see just how high this new Superman will fly. The movie releases in 2025 on July 11.

Peacemaker Season 2 Will Be Released

Not only will James Gunn’s new DC film Superman be released in 2025, but the second season of his brainchild Peacemaker is also expected to release a second season. Peacemaker is a spin-off series starring John Cena’s raunchy antihero who was introduced to audiences in The Suicide Squad. Peacemaker is one of the few projects from the DCEU era that is set to continue under Gunn and Safran’s new vision and it’s currently targeting an August 2025 release.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Will Begin Filming

Following Kal-El’s debut in 2025, his cousin Kara is set to make her big-screen arrival in 2026. This means Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will begin production in 2025 in anticipation of its mid-2026 release date. Casting for the movie is already heating up with Millie Alcock (House of the Dragon) confirmed to play Kara Zor-El and Jason Momoa recently announced to be appearing in the film as a fresh DC character, Lobo. As the new Supergirl movie approaches its filming start, fans can expect more casting announcements, set photos, and potentially even some early footage by the end of next year.

The Batman Part 2 Will Go Into Production

Following the release of the spin-off series The Penguin in 2024, excitement for The Batman: Part II is at an all-time high. There were few updates from Matt Reeves’ sequel in 2024, apart from the recent news that its release date has been pushed back to 2027. That being said, Reeves has said he expects to film the new Batman film in 2025, meaning some plot details and casting announcements should be made in the new year.

Updates From Mike Flanagan’s Clayface Movie

Similar to The Batman: Part 2, Mike Flanagan’s Clayface movie is still early on in development. However, its target of a 2026 release date means the film should go into production sometime in 2025, which means fans can expect to learn more about the plot and receive casting announcements about who will be involved in the new DC Studios movie.
