Post-credit scenes have become a new favorite fashion in superhero movies. Even though other movies have done them before, it wasn’t until MCU that the practice became much more popular. The DCEU followed in MCU’s footsteps in this area and continues to include post-credit scenes in their movies. Some of them serve as a teaser for things to come in future DCEU movies.
Other post-credit scenes are little jokes or offer a unique look into the characters‘ lives. Whatever the case, the best post-credit scenes in the DCEU are easily memorable thanks to their quality and what they tell us about the heroes and their shared universe.
6 The Villains Meet In Justice League (2017)
Justice League was one of the worst-rated movies in the DCEU. That led to the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021 as all DCEU fans will know. However, even the original team-up movie offered several intriguing moments. While it's heroes who get their post-credit scenes most of the time, Justice League switched the recipe and had Lex Luthor meet with another iconic DC villain, Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke.
Even though he only played it for a brief moment, Joe Manganiello nailed the role and Deathstroke’s fans were looking forward to seeing more of him, possibly as a member of the Legion of Doom, since its creation was hinted at by the post-credit scene. Unfortunately, the Legion has yet to play a part in the DCEU but if it ever does, there’s seemingly no reason why Deathstroke couldn’t come back as the team’s member. The possibilities the scene offers are enough to make the fans excited which makes it one of the best DCEU post-credit scenes.
5 Shazam Tests His Powers In Shazam! (2019)
Shazam! Remains one of the funniest DCEU movies, and one of its post-credit scenes had the same spirit. In it, Shazam continues to test his powers. More specifically, he’s trying to find out whether he can speak to fish like another DCEU superhero, Aquaman. Initially, it looks like he might have this power, but it soon turns out Shazam is just making fun of his friend Freddy.
It’s a fun scene that not only (almost) contains one of the more unusual powers a superhero can have but also serves to demonstrate the bond and easy camaraderie between Billy Batson and Freddy.
4 Asteria Saves The Day In Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
The second Wonder Woman solo movie didn’t get as positive ratings from the audience as its 2017 predecessor. However, despite the movie’s critical reception, Wonder Woman 1984 still had multiple highlights. One of them was the post-credit scene that showed another Amazon living in the world of men – none other than Asteria, the Amazon who originally owned the Golden Eagle Armor that Diana donned in the movie in order to take on her enemies.
Asteria proves her heroic nature when she saves a woman and her baby from getting crushed. The fans were happy to see another Amazon since it opens the possibility of a team-up between Wonder Woman and Asteria. What’s more, Asteria was played by Lynda Carter, the original Wonder Woman from the 1970s VT show, and it’s not every day that the DCEU gives the fans two Wonder Women in a single movie.
3 Harley Knows Batman's Secret In Birds Of Prey (2020)
Harley Quinn’s unique sense of humor is one of the things that made her a fan-favorite in Suicide Squad (2016) and warranted her return in several other movies. In her almost-solo movie Birds of Prey, Harley gets to have the last word in the post-credit scene that functions more as a short joke than an actual scene (but it still happens after the movie is over, so it counts).
During the credits, the audience can hear Harley’s voice. First, she lets everyone know she’ll share a secret with the fans, and then she adds: „Did you know that Batman f-?“ While Harley doesn’t get to finish the sentence, every adult fan can imagine what she was about to say, as it isn’t the first time Harley questioned Batman’s deeply personal life. The scene, however brief, is hilarious, even though it has very little connection to the movie’s actual plot, unlike other DCEU post-credit scenes.
2 Peacemaker Is Alive After All In The Suicide Squad (2021)
While this post-credit scene isn’t very exciting content-wise, it holds a lot of promise for the future – a promise it has since managed to fulfill. In the scene, it turns out that Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker survived the events of the movie even though it looked like that Bloodsport had killed him.
The scene is important as it creates a bridge between the movie and the 2022 series Peacemaker which stars the titular antihero as an unwilling member of a new team that fights crime. Peacemaker has scored with the audience and became one of the best new shows of 2022. So unlike other DCEU post-credit scenes which have yet to pay out, this one proved it wasn’t placed in the movie by an accident.
1 Superman Shows Up In Black Adam (2022)
As the latest DCEU movie, Black Adam introduced a new antihero. It also marked the return of an iconic character, Superman played by Henry Cavill. Since Cavill’s fans were worried he would never play Superman again, seeing him show up was an enjoyable moment for them.
While it’s unlikely that these two will fight it out, let alone work together in a movie anytime soon, at least this post-credit scene gave the DCEU fans a glimpse of what could have been if things had been different.
