Look as a an avid gamer who primarily preorders and finishes RPGs within the first week of the release. I deliberately decided to not play this game even though it is my second favourite RPG after Mass Effect.
And assuming that my disdan for this game is because of the politics associated with would be too presumptuous. The graphics are disgusting. Dialog options don't have any serious impact on story, choices are limited and RPG elements of the game are stripped down, and most importantly past games have very little to contribute in the story...this is clear from various video reviews that are out there.
These are reasons enough for the game to be hated by true fans.
Politics doesn't really matter when the product is good. I don't know why game devs seem to forget that

My only critiques are that I wish the romances were flushed out better and that Rook wouldn’t drown in a puddle. Other than that I have been loving this game.

I don't believe this was an adult centered game, but developed for middle school children. The game has a too nice feel to it, with little to no choices that effect anything in the game. It definitely was not like any DA game before it.

After waiting countless years for the next Dragon Age game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was an incredible experience for me, and I haven't been able to put it down. One element I have especially enjoyed in the latest game of the Dragon Age franchise is the introduction of factions, while some factions didn't have as much attention as others it added another element of personalization for players like myself that added some flavor text here and there.

This might also be the first Dragon Age game where I have truly fallen in love with the combat! Mage and Rogue have both been incredibly satisfying, and I'm looking forward to trying warrior soon.

Its definitely not deserving of the 1 and 2 star reviews left by people who abhor the woke agenda, yet it also truly isn't up to dragon age standards to me. My major issues are the fact that you just have no role playing aspect anymore. Rook is always the same noble person who sometimes is a bit more goody, or a bit more straightforward or a bit more flippant. You get no options to disagree with your party members anymore, which really takes away their and rooks character. I am actually also annoyed by the scene about the non binary character but that is because it is so condescending and heavy handed. Inquisition handled it so much better with Crem. That being said, its truly a beautifull game and fun enough if you just pretend its not a dragon age game

Entirely deserving of the 1 star review. I have played through this game cover to cover. If it had no attachment to the IP I would give it a 4 out of 10.

Good Points: it is a pretty game. It does pay for human voice actors.

The first biggest hurdle is in isn't an RPG and it certainly isn't a return to form for Bioware, who is famed for created some of the best RPGs of the 1990s-2000s.

Veilguard is aimed at a preteen audience, (there are LGBTQ+ options for both your character) as well as outside characters. As the poor character writing and poor plot writing are the hallmarks of this game I wouldn't get your hopes up as a player. All but one party member is entirely flat (undeveloped character).

This is the snark supportive main character (pick any of the three options it changes nothing), who everyone will agree with, believe, and in time worship because they are always right, good, moral, and incapable of making mistakes except to continue the plot (those are scripted and entirely unmissable).

Let me explain the one star review. For a game that uses an IP, sets expectations, and sells their game under a specific genre (there is then expectation that you will actually deliver the product your promise). Veilguard isn't an RPG, it isn't set within the world it claims to be, and there are few to no choices of any consequence (one of the hallmarks for a REAL RPG).

Gameplay is interesting for 30 minutes to an hour maximum, there are less than twenty enemies in the game and all enemies are reskins of these few opponents (with bosses occasionally adding something more). If you would like to enjoy the game play it on normal or lower, the only addition difficulty adds is increasing the health copious amounts. Also being a long term God of War fan the comparsion is insulting. This is not a good action RPG game, this is one that never evolves or changes from the moment you begin as Rook to the final battle nothing notable changes. (yes you get abilities)

I am into this game about 60 hours. I love the gameplay, the fighting etc. and that is the only reason I plan to finish it. I only give this game a 5 is due to the dialogue wheel and it's choices. First of all, the writers made the characters all goody two-shoes. Just want to sit around a campfire and sing kumbahya. There is no conflict between any of them. No real life choices. No disagreement with rook at all. Obviously the writers have never played mass effect or dragon age before. The characters and their interactions can make or break a game and they broke this one. There is no humor to speak of. And the romances are weak. DA has always been woke and that's fine. I just hope they don't let the same writers work on mass effect 5.

This was my first experience with Dragon Age, but I'm certainly not unfamiliar with the genre! The combat and world-building were brilliant, but I found the writing to be a bit lacking and my character choices to be lacking the depth I was craving. It's certainly not deserving of the super low scores being given, but I wouldn't rank it in my top RPGs or titles for 2024.

I would have to disagree with those that are lauding the game as revolutionary or even a "Dragon Age" game. To perspective, I played through the game 3 different times. Doing different playthroughs to see what more you can get out of the game. Without spoilers, in terms of backstory, I would advise picking the Shadow Dragons or the Wardens to get the most out of the game.

Starting with the character creator, I would agree that the game is better than its processors. You can make some genuinely beautiful characters and I can only imagine what it would be like to play this game with the modding community. However, it does fall short with certain elements. Mostly figure. I noticed that if trying to make more vivacious figured characters, the game fell quite short, despite some NPC character models showing that the capacity was there. I would've liked further, particularly considering other games in the future, to allow for more customization. Again, NPCs seemed to have far more uniqueness than your character which, in this day in age of an RPG, is a bit saddening.

Graphics actually are pretty good in general. Sometimes it is delightful just looking at the scenery. They did good even with the occasional blurs here and there.

However, my gripe isn't about that, as it is still pretty decent. What got me to the point of ranking the game to this level are two factors. Lore, RPG elements, and dialogue. THIS.... is what had me the MOST disappointed. Because this isn't just a simple RPG game. If you are a true fan that read all the Codex files, enjoyed creating different aspects within the Dragon's Keep and seeing your game from different lights... I am hard-pressed to see how you would enjoy the game as the lore breaks what has been established. With the character limit, I can't go into detail as I'd like, but to put it lightly... This game only works as a Dragon Age game... if it's treated as an alternate universe. DA fans deserved better and more care for this title.

I won’t say it’s an absolutely perfect game but it’s pretty darn good and highly enjoyable to play. I love all the little details: the soundscaping, the camera shift when you enter some areas, the adorable interactions with Assam and Manfred… I personally like that it’s not as open world - I found wandering around Inquisition a little tedious at times. The different areas you travel to are gorgeous and fun to explore. I also really like the movement when you’re travelling - hopping or climbing over things, walking across fallen trees or beams, and zip lining to get to new parts of an area.

I will agree that the soundtrack is… fine. Not particularly memorable. Nothing hits like “The Dawn Will Come” or all those lil bard songs in DAI, or affects me like the way I feel every time I start up DA2 and hear that opening theme. So, I’ll take off a star for that. Solid game over all and a really enjoyable addition to the franchise!

The Veilguard isn’t a bad game—far from it. It delivers a solid action gameplay experience with some exploration elements. However, I feel it struggles to capture the essence of what made Dragon Age so beloved, particularly the deeper, more tactical combat and, most importantly, the weight of decisions from previous games.

Characters like Varric and Morrigan are great to see, but they feel superficial, as if untouched by the choices I made in the past. While the game has its strengths, it misses the mark on what made the series truly special for many fans.

I played for an hour (or less) the day it came out and I haven't touched it since. This is one of the worst games I've ever played and an insult to the entier Dragon Age franchise. Bioware should take everything relateing to this game (including the developers), douse it in kerosene, burn it, and rebuild this game from the ground up.

It's a good game. If you compare it to the older games than yes you may be a little disappointed, BUT! It's an ok game.
The graphics are good, the fighting style gives you a lot more options than previous games in the series. I do feel the other games gave you more ability to free roam but, again, we are comparing a games series stretching over a decade.
I see nothing wrong with the game except gamers acting like spoiled kids. We play games to escape an enjoy a story. If you don't like it, don't play it.
I only wish they add more dlcs to this game.

Its definitely a solid 8/10. Not perfect by any means (especially from Bioware's standpoint!) But I thoroughly enjoyed the roughly 300 hours I sunk into the game. And hey, it was free for me anyway (huge shootout to PS+!)

12 hrs in and feeling im just starting the game, lets just say i’m looking in every corner for treasures, puzzles and lore. Love it! I really hope the Devs will come with a DLC in the future still as Dragon Age is a game i really love and got many many hrs in!
In this game i really like the combat and the world, ppl say it aint got that darkness like the other games then i wonder what game they r playing or not?
